Clean and care for your Samsung gas cooktop
The gas cooktop is often a centerpiece in the kitchen, frequently used and requiring regular attention to maintain its cleanliness and aesthetic appeal. Despite its complex appearance and multiple components, routine care and maintenance can become straightforward with a bit of practice. Regular cleaning not only reduces the effort needed over time but also enhances the overall cooking experience. A clean cooking area is not just about looks; it significantly impacts the quality of your food and the health of your family.
Note: This guide is tailored for gas cooktops available in Canada. Avoid placing any aluminum foil or pans directly on the cooktop as it can cause irreversible damage and affect the unit's functionality.
Before cleaning your cooktop, heed these warnings:
- Ensure the cooktop's electrical power is off and all surfaces are cool to touch.
- Avoid steel wool pads, abrasive cleaners, caustic lye (sodium hydroxide), chlorine, or any cleaner containing these chemicals as they can damage the cooktop.
- Cleaning the cooktop should not involve uninstalling it; this could damage gas lines and pose a fire hazard or lead to system failure.
- Do not spray cleaners into the manifold holes where the ignition system is located, as moisture here can cause issues.
- Dishwashers are unsuitable for cleaning any oven or cooktop components.
- Self-cleaning ovens should not be used to clean cooktop pieces like cast iron grates or griddles.
Cleaning the cast-iron griddle (if your model includes one) is best done shortly after use, once it's cooled down enough to handle safely.
A stiff brush and hot water are all you need for cleaning. Avoid soap and harsh detergents, and ensure the griddle is dry before next use. Store the griddle in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Note: Only select models include a cast-iron griddle.
For cleaning grates, warm soapy water and a thorough rinse suffice. For stubborn buildup, soaking in hot water mixed with a mild degreaser or white vinegar for 15 to 30 minutes can be effective. Ensure the grates are completely dry before reinstallation.
Note: Some models include wok grates, which can be cleaned similarly.
Remembering the placement and size of burner caps and heads is crucial, as they are not interchangeable. If unsure, consult your user manual.
Clean these components in hot, soapy water, and rinse under running water. Use a plastic scouring pad for stubborn residues and a sewing needle or twist tie to unclog burner head holes. Ensure burner port openings are clear after cleaning.
Remove heads and caps for easier access to the burner bases (see section above), then wipe them with a damp cloth. Avoid damaging the bases and ensure they are dry before use.
Note: Water intrusion into the burner base or brass gas orifices can cause issues. Brass parts may discolor over time, which is normal and does not affect performance. Use brass cleaner for these parts.
With the components removed (refer to the “Remove and wash the heads and caps” section above), clean the cooktop surface with a soft, damp cloth. Enamel cleaners are effective for most cooktops.
Ensure all knobs are in the OFF position before removal. Clean knobs with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Use stainless steel cleaner or white vinegar for the stainless steel surfaces.
Reattach the knobs to the control valve stems in the OFF position after cleaning and drying.
Remove knobs to access the stainless steel surfaces more easily (see section above).
Clean spills, spots, and grease stains using a soft, wet cloth with stainless steel cleaner or white vinegar. Work in small sections and dry with a soft cloth.
Ensure all parts and surfaces are dry before reassembling. Each component has a specific placement; refer to your user manual for guidance.
Properly orient each burner head with the electrode opening, ensuring a flat fit and correct cap placement.
Note: Use the microwave or range hood exhaust fan during cooktop use to minimize fumes.
