What can you do when your Samsung dishwasher does not start or fill with water
When a cycle is selected, your dishwasher will first attempt to drain excess water left over from previous cycles. This will cause your dishwasher to sound like it is working, although no water is actually filling the unit yet, which is normal. After the unit runs a drain cycle, it will then proceed with the selected wash cycle. If this is not what's happening, your dishwasher may have Child Lock or Delay Start enabled.
Note: The provided information refers to dishwashers sold in Canada. The available settings and options may differ for appliances sold in other countries.
The following steps will help you if your dishwasher won’t start or fill with water.
- Check the door and door latch. If the door or latch is damaged, it could prevent the dishwasher from closing. When the dishwasher detects the door is open, it will not start.
- If the buttons are not responding, there's a good chance Child Lock is turned on. Child Lock is typically represented by a padlock icon, and can be toggled by pressing and holding the designated button for 3 seconds. The button is usually Heated Dry, Sanitize, or Child Lock. When Child Lock is turned on, the padlock icon or the associated button will be lit.
- If you are trying to wash dishes right away, you'll want to make sure Delay Start isn't selected. When this is enabled, the dishwasher will wait until the set time has passed before it starts a cycle.
- Next, you can check for an error code or blinking lights, depending on the model. The dishwasher may be indicating it cannot start because of an error. See either the blinking lights or error code guide for correct troubleshooting steps.
- You can also try pressing (but not holding) the Start button. When the Start button is held for more than 3 seconds, the cycle is canceled and the dishwasher drains. If this happens, a blinking “1” will be on the display. If you see this, press the Start button to resume the cycle.
- Finally, go to the circuit breaker in your home, and reset the circuit your dishwasher is on. After restoring power, try to run another cycle.
