Record and edit 8K videos with your Galaxy Note20

8K video is the highest resolution video recording available in a smartphone, and your Galaxy Note20 5G, and Note20 Ultra 5G can record videos in this impressive format. Your videos can also be edited, while maintaining a high resolution. On the Note20 5G series, you can even control which microphone is recording. If you’d like to show the world your new videos, you can share them to YouTube or to your smart TV.

Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for smartphones sold in other countries. 8K video sharing on a TV is not supported through an HDMI USB-C connection.

In order to film an 8K video on your phone, you’ll need to enable the 8K setting in the Camera app. Then, you can use the Editor to trim your video.

1 To start taking a video, open the Camera app.
2 Tap the Settings icon (the gear icon, at the top left corner), tap Rear video size, and then tap 16:9 (8K).
Tap 16:9 (8K)
3 Tap the Back arrow twice, and then tap the Record virtual button.
4 You can also tap the Capture virtual button while you're recording an 8K video to save a high-resolution photo.

Not only can you record in 8K on your Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G, you can also choose additional Multi-source microphone options to make your videos’ sounds very clear. Play around with the input options when you’re recording videos in a crowded area so individual voices and sounds will be heard.

Begin by opening the Camera app. Tap MORE, and then tap PRO VIDEO. Next, tap the Sound input icon on the lower left side of the screen. Choose from the five audio input options:

Film Pro 8K videos
  • Omni: This will capture sound from all directions equally.
  • Front: Great for capturing sound that is coming towards the front of the phone.
  • Rear: This is great for capturing sound that is coming towards the back of the phone.
  • USB: Sounds will be captured from a USB-C input, such as a microphone.
  • Bluetooth: Sounds coming from a Bluetooth input device will be captured.

You can control the volume of the input source by adjusting the decibel slider at the bottom of the screen. Tap the virtual Record button (at the bottom of the screen) to begin recording your video.

Your phone and TV must have Wi-Fi turned on to share the video.

Now it’s time to share your video so everyone can enjoy it. You can do this wirelessly on your compatible smart TV or by uploading it to YouTube.

To send your video to your TV, you can use either Tap view or Smart View. With Tap view, you can tap your phone against the edge of your TV to instantly transfer media. Or, you can enable Smart View to mirror your phone’s screen on your TV.

Share your 8K video

Maybe you want to upload the video to YouTube instead. Begin by opening the Gallery app, and then selecting your video. Tap Share at the bottom of the screen, and then tap YouTube to open the app. Sign into your account, and then tap Upload. The video may take some time to upload due to the file size.
