Mastering close-up photography with your Galaxy phone

The rear wide-angle camera on some Galaxy devices has a bright aperture to help you take brighter photos in darker environments (low light). The brighter the aperture, the more pronounced the out-of-focus effect, where even a small distance from the subject makes the surroundings look blurry. Galaxy phone models with bright aperture include the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip5, etc.

Managing the distance between your camera and the subject is crucial for capturing the perfect close-up. Here’s how you can adjust the distance effectively:

Step back and zoom in: Slightly increase the distance from your subject to reduce blur. Use your phone’s zoom feature to maintain focus on the subject.

Utilize the ultra-wide-angle camera:

• Open the Camera app and select 0.6x or 0.5x.

• If the subject is closer than 30 cm, try moving back approximately 2.5 cm for improved focus.

• For capturing full-body portraits, simply take a step back to fit the entire frame.

The angle of your shot can dramatically affect the outcome. To avoid unwanted blur around your subject:

• Avoid tilting the camera. This can create an interesting perspective but might blur the surroundings.

• Shoot vertically to focus more sharply on the subject and minimize background blur.
