Samsung Galaxy's Security & Privacy features safeguard users' everyday mobile experience with best efforts
And you have a say in how your data is used, exactly how you see fit through simple, intuitive settings
Aug 08. 2024Hong Kong – August 8, 2024 – As Samsung technology evolves with constant refinements and the extensive use of Galaxy AI across product ecosystem, the long-standing commitment to safeguard users’ data security and privacy continues in the era of AI. With users’ peace of mind championed at all times, Samsung Knox enables users to explore the vast capabilities of a wide array of mobile devices with safety, choice and trust knowing that they have control over their devices.
From data usage used for AI experience enhancements to privacy in daily communications, users are secured with Samsung Knox, Galaxy’s defense-grade, multi-layered security platform. Additionally, users are given full controllability to customize data protection that is most suited to their day-to-day usage, through simple and intuitive settings.
Pin App
There’s a feeling you get when you hand over your phone to show somebody your holiday snaps or just something funny you saved, but you are horrified by the chance of them accidentally opening another app and see a message or anything else that was not intended. Pin App can keep viewers exactly where they’re supposed to be – in the app you’ve pinned – and nowhere else. It can also act as a Do Not Disturb sign and prevents pop-up notifications of personal information when showing an amusing social media post to others.
For extra security, you can choose ‘Ask for PIN before unpinning’, so whoever has your phone will need a password to get out of the pinned application.
Then, open the app you want to pin. Tap the Recents button (or swipe up and hold if you’re using swipe gestures) then tap the icon above the app. Select the ‘Pin this app’ option, and that’s it.

Maintenance Mode
Specifically designed to protect and hide your personal data from being accessed when the device is sent for any type of assessment or repair. When Maintenance Mode is activated through Settings’ Device Care, or through the Samsung Members app, a distinct user profile can be set up, ensuring your primary account and data remain private. All personal data including photos, videos, contacts and messages can be concealed in this mode. It also ensures that no data is erased by accident from your device, and at the same time ensure that basic device features required for the necessary service diagnosis is enabled[1].

Secure Folder
Samsung Knox provides layers of security and privacy, not only to protect users but also to give them choice in what they want to secure. For those who want to keep their most personal information separate and safe, there’s Secure Folder.
It locks away your data so it cannot be accessed through your phone’s regular storage and can hold your most private data such as calendar schedules and contact information, as well as notes, photos, videos, files and even apps. It can also be encrypted for extra security until the next time you need to access it.
For example, if you want to keep a copy of your personal identification, you can take a photo of it using the Camera app within Secure Folder, or you can pick a photo in your Gallery, tap the options menu (the three dots), and then select ‘Move to Secure Folder’. The image will be secured here where only a Pin, pattern, password or additionally a fingerprint access can unlock.

Auto Blocker
Auto Blocker will protect your Galaxy device and personal data by preventing app installations from unauthorized sources. The feature will also check for malware and other cybersecurity threats, immediately blocking any malicious activity. Users will have the option of intentional sideloading, such as adding customizations to your phone, but this feature will provide extra peace of mind and stall potential attacks.
The extra level of protection that Auto Blocker provides also stops harmful commands from entering your physical USB port — which could come in handy when charging your phone through an outlet at a public space like an airport.

Message Guard
Cybersecurity threats come in many forms, and each year they become even more sophisticated. One threat that is becoming increasingly common is the zero-click attack, which can take place any time an image is received and exploits vulnerabilities in your device software, without your even taking any actions.
For instance, your phone receives an image and vibrates gently in your pocket or on your bedside table before going still. You haven't touched your phone, but someone may already be reading your messages, browsing your gallery or copying your bank details.
Samsung’s Message Guard will neutralize any potential threats that might be hiding in the image before it has a chance to do any harm by effectively trapping the file in an isolated space on your device. While the image is put into quarantine, Samsung Message Guard checks the file bit by bit — processing it in a controlled environment to prevent infection to the rest of your device
Message Guard works with a range of popular messaging apps from Google and Samsung apps to Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp, and runs silently and effectively 24/7 in the background without needing to be activated in any way.
With up to seven years of security updates and seven years of operating system upgrades, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. This is the longest period of software support currently available for mobile devices, allowing users to keep their phones safely and more reliably for longer.
Private Sharing with Quick Share
You want to share pictures of your newborn baby, or a video from your recent holiday, but don’t want to risk them somehow ending up online or visible to anyone other than those you intended.
Samsung Galaxy has a built-in solution to this problem: Quick Share’s Private Sharing, a privacy-preserving file-sharing function that lets you share your data with peace of mind.
With Private Sharing, only the designated recipients can open the files you send. You can also set permissions and expiration dates for the data, or give read-only access without the ability to re-share; revoke the data access whenever you like; restrict screenshotting, and see when the recipient received and opened the file.
Up to 20 files with a total size of up to 200MB can be shared at once, securely and fully encrypted when shared.[2] Simply tap Quick Share and select Turn on Private Sharing, and change the expiration date or revoke sharing permissions if needed.
Enhanced Data Protection with End-to-End Encryption
Anyone would panic when a notification comes in alerting you that something’s gone wrong with a website you visited, and the server where your sensitive account details are stored has been compromised. With Galaxy’s Enhanced Data Protection, you can be confident that your data remains secure in the Samsung Cloud.
Starting with the Galaxy S24, Enhanced Data Protection offers additional protection for Galaxy devices when you sync or back up your data with Samsung Cloud.[3] This feature mitigates data loss via end-to-end encryption (E2EE), which ensures data can only be encrypted or decrypted on your device and cannot be seen by anyone but you. In other words, you can connect to other devices while staying secure, and your data will be kept safe even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen.
When Enhanced Data Protection is enabled through the Samsung Cloud app or device Settings, you'll be prompted to write down a recovery code to help prevent the loss of your data in the event you lose your device. End-to-end encrypted data is only accessible on devices using the Enhanced Data Protection feature, and cannot be accessed by anyone else, including Samsung.

Security & Privacy Dashboard
The Security & Privacy Dashboard allows you to have complete controllability and total empowerment over how your data is used, in one simple and easy-to-use interface where you can view, create and update your app permissions, controls and data-sharing features.
The Dashboard also allows you to see any data that may be at risk, intuitively showing you the safety status of security items.
▲ Settings > Security and privacy
You can quickly and easily change your settings to manage potential dangers at the touch of a button. Items are ordered in priority of the functions that could have the most significant impact on your online safety, shown with intuitive red, yellow or green alerts at a glance.
Meanwhile, Galaxy devices proactively remove permissions from apps that have not been used in a while but might still be tracking user details, for extra security. This can then be reinstated if you choose in the Dashboard.
Permission Usage provides an easy way for you to see your recently used permissions on location, camera, microphone and others – specifically, which apps have used a certain permission in the last 24 hours or seven days.
It's simple to access your Security & Privacy Dashboard. Just go to Settings and Security & Privacy, where you can review and adjust permissions as you see fit.
Find My Mobile / Samsung Find
Once Find My Mobile is enabled, Samsung Find allows you to locate, lock and even erase your device’s data to create an access lockdown, even if it is not connected to a mobile network, as long as it’s turned on. And through Samsung Find, it’s not only your Galaxy phone you can hunt down – but also your Galaxy Buds, tablets, watches and other devices.
The additional options also make it possible for family members to help track down shared devices via the Samsung Find app by viewing the location or activating ringing noises. To give yourself the best chance of locating lost devices with Samsung Find, you can extend the battery life by remotely turning on power saving mode.
