Fitness Challenges around
the World

A look at five stunningly scenic fitness challenges from around the world.

Don’t panic if queuing up with hundreds of other mountaineers waiting to ascend the peaks of Mount Everest isn’t your thing. There are still plenty of exciting challenge-based trips you can take that don’t require the guidance of a Sherpa. Adventurous spirit and some suitable training will do here.

Dive into your fitness challenge safe in the knowledge that you can track every milestone with the Galaxy Watch Active. As you take on your challenge, beating your fitness goals will be the ultimate reward.

To give you some inspiration for the next tick off your #LifeGoals bucket list, here are five of our favourite fitness challenges from around the world that you might not have heard of.

1

Halong Bay Heritage Marathon

Held on the last Saturday of November each year, the Halong Bay Heritage Marathon is one of the most iconic marathons in Vietnam, run on this stunning World Heritage Site.

The special design of the track offers a unique running course across Bai Chay Bridge, the longest single span bridge in Southeast Asia, as well as incredible views of the magnificent mountainous landscapes of Halong Bay and its beautiful fishing villages.

2

Tough Mudder

With multiple events held throughout the year, there’s plenty of opportunity for you to take part in what is one of the toughest obstacle courses open to the general public, Tough Mudder.

Although it’s only eight to ten miles long, it’s packed with mud-filled obstacles that are, in a word: tough. Think ice-cold water swimming, electric shock walking, and ten-foot wall climbing tough.

While not for the faint-hearted, completing Tough Mudder certainly makes for an impressive #LifeGoal to show off on social media.

3

Trans-Alps Cycling Challenge

If high altitude is more your thing, then try cycling across the Swiss Alps at over 2,000 metres above sea level. Spread over eight days, you’ll be pushing the pedals to the limit covering an impressive 100km a day.

With a route that takes you from Geneva to the Cote d’Azur, via some epic climbs, thrilling descents and exquisite, ever-changing scenery, it’s absolutely worth the effort.

4

The Great Fjord Swim

If swimming is what you enjoy, then the Great Fjord Swim, held in the shadow of one of the Republic of Ireland’s highest mountain ranges, could be the perfect challenge for you.

With Killary Fjord offering beautiful water and views of stunning natural landscapes, you can doggy paddle your way through either a 750m, 2km, or 3.9km course (depending on how strong your doggy paddle is!) This challenge is for those unafraid of getting wet.

5

Trekking the Amazon

Last but certainly not least is the Amazon Rainforest, which spans 2,300,000 square miles across Brazil and is home to more than 10 million different species.

The best time to visit here for a trek is between May and June as it’s exactly in the middle of the rainiest months (February to April) and the hottest (September to November). There are many local guides willing to offer trekking experiences along its world famous river and through its dense, wildlife-packed forests.
