How can I increase the battery life on my Samsung notebook?

How you use your Samsung notebook directly affects its battery life.  Running many programs at once, or running power intensive software, such as games, will use more battery. You can improve your notebook battery life by reducing the demands on its CPU and memory.

Tips to increase battery life

1 Reduce the number of programs running in the background, either one by one, or with Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc together. Even when apps are running in the background, they still use resources, reducing your battery life.
2 Reduce your screen brightness. The brighter your screen, the more battery it uses.
3 Disconnect any external devices when not in use. Connected external devices will use your notebook battery for power.
4 Turn off or hibernate your computer rather than leaving it on standby. While on standby your battery still needs to power your RAM to remember what you were working on and what files you were using.
4 Turn off your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when they are not in use.
5 Run files from your hard drive, rather than from a CD or DVD. Using your CD drive will consume more battery than the hard drive. Your notebook will continue to spin the disc in your CD drive even if you aren't currently using it.
6 Clean the air vents on your notebook regularly with a cloth or keyboard cleaner. Keeping your air vents clean will help to keep the temperature of your notebook down. The hotter your notebook becomes, the harder the fans will have to work to keep your notebook cool. You can use a cooling stand to help keep your notebook cool.
7 If your notebook has a traditional harddrive, you should defrag it regularly. Defragging your notebook will rearrange the files on your hard drive to make access faster and less power consuming. Use the search tool on your notebook to find the Disk Defragmenter.
8 Clean the contacts on your battery. Cleaning the metal contracts on your battery with cleaning alcohol every few months is good way to ensure that power is always transferred most efficiently.
