What does Vodafone’s RCS termination mean for my Galaxy phone?
Vodafone’s RCS service has terminated, and as of the end of March 2023, it is no longer available. From the beginning of April 2023, this service will be transitioning to Google’s RCS service.
What is RCS
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is a text-based protocol for mobile devices. It was designed to replace SMS and MMS messaging. It allows you to create group chats and send images and videos.
How can I continue to use the RCS service?
As of the end of March 2023, Vodafone is transitioning its RCS service to Google. To be able to keep using the RSC service, you will need to download a software update.
Please check your phone’s software and update it to the latest version. To do this go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If there is an update available, you will be able to choose Install now, Schedule install, or Later.
This software update will be rolled out sequentially by model, starting in April.
Before the software update is available, some RSC services may not work properly.
Will I still be able to use SMS?
SMS services will still be available, but it will no longer be the default messaging app. Instead Google’s messaging app, Messages by Google, will be the default.
If you still have the Samsung Messages App as your default, you won’t receive any SMS messages.
