How to set up and use the Interpreter app on Galaxy devices

The Interpreter app on Galaxy devices enables users to engage in conversations without the hindrance of language barriers and makes communication more accessible to individuals from different linguistic backgrounds.

How to use the Interpreter app

Interpreter translates in-person conversations in real-time and can be used in a variety of situations for both business and personal purposes.

Note: The bottom half of the screen will be relevant to you, and the top half of the screen will be relevant to the person you are talking to.

  • Supported languages (Regions)
    Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong, Taiwan), Dutch, English (Australia, India, United Kingdom, United States), French (Canada, France), German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Romanian, Russian (Russian Federation), Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese.

    * More languages will be added in future updates.

Step 1. Open the Quick settings panel > Select Interpreter.

Step 2. Tap the language by the bottom microphone icon to select the language you will use > Tap the language by the top microphone icon to select the language the other speaker will use.

* Tap Add languages if you require more options.

* Allow access to the microphone if a popup appears.

Step 3. Tap the Change view mode icon to flip the top half of the screen to face the other speaker > Tap the Microphone icon facing you and speak.

* The app will audibly translate what you say as well as display a transcription in your original language and a written translation in the second person's language.

Step 1. Go to the Interpreter app > Tap the More options icon (three vertical dots) > Select Recents.

Step 2. Swipe up to find the translation you want > Tap the Copy icon to copy the transcribed translation or tap the Play icon to listen to the audible translation.

* Translations are discarded after 24 hours.

Step 1. Tap the More options icon (three vertical dots) > Select Settings.

Step 2. To customise the settings, select Language packs for translation, Voice styles, or Tap to talk.

Notes:

  • When the Tap to talk feature is enabled, both speakers must tap their respective microphone icons each time they speak.
  • When the Tap to talk feature is disabled, once the initial speaker has finished speaking after tapping the Microphone icon, the other person's microphone is automatically activated after that individual is finished speaking.
