My phone is lagging. What should i do?
* Please note, this section is designed to give you basic product troubleshooting information, also refer to your user manual for more information.
Your device may feel slightly sluggish after a firmware update, as there may be enhancements of existing features or additional new features. It could also be to an unsuccessful firmware update where you have lost internet connection whilst in the process of updating the firmware on your device.
Applications also play a part in lowering the performance of your smartphone. If you have downloaded and installed a lot of applications which have a background process (e.g. messenger applications, games, anti-virus apps etc.), it will slow down your device. In these circumstances, you may also feel that your device starts to warm up more than usual. This also leads to the battery depleting faster than normal.
When browsing the web on your smartphone, you may have encountered bad websites with popups. In some of these cases, malware may have been downloaded onto your device. This will also play a part in decreasing the performance of your smartphone due to the bad background processes.
Here are a few steps to determine which may be causing the issue:
Step 1: Booting your device in Safe Mode will disable any 3rd party applications and purely run off the standard Android OS. This is to determine if there are any applications causing interference with the performance of your device.
■ Restart your device.
■ Hold down the Volume Down key as soon as you seem the Samsung Logo until the phone is fully loaded.
■ Once your device has loaded you should see Safe Mode at the bottom of your device.
■ Navigate throughout the device to check to see for any performance improvements.
If you feel that your device is working fine in Safe Mode, this means it is due to the applications or malware which is loaded on your device.
If there is no difference in the sluggish performance of your device, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Please perform a Factory Data Reset on your device. Please be advised that this will remove "ALL DATA" from your device and bring it back to its default Factory Settings as you would have first started the device when you first got it.
■ Tap on Apps
■ Go to Settings
■ Find and tap on Backup and reset
■ Tap on Factory data reset (If you have phone security enabled, you may need to enter your passwords in order to proceed to the next step.)
■ Follow the prompts until your device reboots to commence with the Factory Data Reset.
After your device has fully loaded, please check to see if there has been improvement in the performance of your device. If the issue persists, this may be due to the corruption of the firmware or there may be an issue with the device itself.
