Engaging over 6,000 respondents across Europe1, our study reveals that the average person is responsible for at least seven tasks in their home, devouring over 30-hours per week! This simple tool enables you to quantify your own Invisible Load, based on the household tasks that you are personally responsible for. This first-of-its-kind formula, draws on the data from across Europe to examine the intensity, time and frequency of your average weekly tasks.

How to reduce the Invisible Load with SmartThings
Washing the dishes
By connecting your SmartThings compatible dishwasher with the SmartThings app, you can select the optimal cycle2 for your dishes, including specialist programs which can be downloaded and start the machine, wherever you are. You can also monitor its progress and get a notification when it's finished on your device.
How to select the best cycle and start the machine from your phone:
1. When you've finished loading your dishwasher, press the Smart Control button.
2. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered dishwasher.
3. Select 'Custom Cycles' and tap the tableware icons to add the items you have loaded into the dishwasher.
4. Tap ‘Start’ to begin the recommended washing recipe.
5. Track your cycle to completion.
6. No need to rush back when the cycle has finished as the 'Auto-Open' door will pop at the top allowing steam to escape and quicker drying of your dishes
Cooking meals
With SmartThings and the Samsung Bespoke AI™ Oven, the built-in camera can recognise the food and pre-set the optimal cooking settings for your meal, and you can even monitor its progress remotely and be notified when the cooking has finished.
How to monitor your food using the in-oven camera:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered oven.
2. Tap ‘Camera Monitoring’ to review the items inside your oven.
Cleaning & Tidying
With SmartThings you can connect a robot vacuum cleaner such as the Jet Bot™ AI+ to clean your house hygienically and efficiently. Turn it on or off, remotely schedule it to clean selected rooms or set no-go zones, and monitor where it’s cleaning in real time.
How to schedule your Jet Bot™ AI + to run at a specific time:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered Jet Bot™ AI+.
2. Tap 'Recommended Routines' to set the time, days and frequency you would like the Jet Bot™ AI+ to run
Pet care
With SmartThings, you can monitor your pet at home using the camera in the Jet Bot™ AI+. Home Alone Mode lets you set and maintain the best environment for your pet - from turning lights on or off, adjusting the TV or maintaining your home's temperature.
How to activate Home Alone Mode:
1. In SmartThings app, tap ‘Life’ on the bottom tab and download ‘Pet Care’.
2. Tap ‘Home alone mode’ and go to ‘Add rule’.
3. Save your pet's favourite settings for TV, music and temperature with preferred days and time.
4. Activate ‘Home alone mode’ to provide an optimal environment for your pet while you're away.
Doing laundry
Start your wash remotely from the SmartThings app and get notified when the wash has been completed. Optimise your wash using AI Wash to automatically dispense the right amount of detergent and water.
How to select AI Wash using SmartThings:
1. When you've finished loading your washer, press the Smart Control button3.
2. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered washer.
3. Tap ‘My cycles’ and select ‘AI Wash’ for the most efficient wash course.
4. Tap ‘Start’ to begin the AI Wash course. The washer will automatically sense the soil level to dispense the right amount of detergent and water.
Managing and paying household bills
With SmartThings Energy4 you can track the energy usage of your home appliances at a glance and even monitor non-smart devices via Smart Plugs5. To save more, activate AI Energy Mode6 and manage energy consumption below a pre-set target.
How to monitor your energy use with SmartThings Energy:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Life’ on the bottom tab and download ‘Energy'4.
2. In the ‘Monitor’ tab, check the total energy usage4 of your devices.
3. Check each device’s energy usage history - hourly, daily, weekly or monthly - in the ‘Device energy usage’ card.
4. To proactively reduce energy usage, activate ‘AI Energy Mode’6 and optimise device settings to meet your pre-set target.
Ironing / Dry Cleaning
Connect your Samsung AirDresser to the SmartThings app to start it remotely and check progress. SmartThings will recommended customised cycles for specific clothes e.g. active wear or leather and give them a hygienic refresh saving the need for Dry cleaning
How to select the best cycle and start the machine from your device:
1. When you've finished loading your AirDresser, press the Smart Control button
2. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered AirDresser.
3. Tap ‘Cycles’7 to create the best cycle for your clothing.
4. Tap the clothing images to add the items you want to load into the AirDresser.
5. Tap ‘Start’ to begin the recommended cycle.
6. Track your cycle to completion.
Home security
SmartThings can give you peace of mind when you're not at home. You can turn your SmartThings compatible lights on so it looks like someone is in, and keep an eye on visitors and deliveries from anywhere. The video doorbell8 shows your front door feed on the smart display of your refrigerator and TV.
How to set up a routine for when you're not at home:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Routines’ on the bottom tab and go to the plus button in the top right.
2. Click 'If' and go to 'Time' to schedule the day, time period and frequency.
3. Click 'Then' and go to ‘Control devices’ to select the lights or specific devices you would like to come on.
4. Alternatively, click 'Run Routines' to run one of your already set up routines e.g. 'Away'.
Grocery shopping
Check what ingredients you have in your Samsung Family Hub refrigerator straight from the grocery store via the in-built camera. You can also use SmartThings Cooking9 to get customised recipes and meal plans, and add the ingredients to a shopping list10.
How to check what's in the fridge using the camera:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Devices’ on the bottom tab and select the registered refrigerator.
2. Tap Inside Fridge to view inside the fridge.
With SmartThings, you can connect your smart lighting to your TV or speakers to create an extra immersive experience for movie night. By creating different Routines in the SmartThings app you can set the mood for any occasion.
How to create a scene for your upcoming event:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Routines’ on the bottom tab and go to the plus button in the top right.
2. Click 'If' and go to 'Manually Run'.
3. Click 'Then' and go to ‘Control devices’ (e.g. lights) to customize device settings to set the perfect mood for your occasion.
SmartThings lets you set the best conditions for your home work out, from making sure you have the perfect temperature to adjusting the lighting. Screen sharing means you can use your smartphone or tablet play your online workout on your TV.
How to set up your space for a workout:
1. In the SmartThings app, tap ‘Routines’ on the bottom tab and go to the plus button in the top right.
2. Click 'If' and go to 'Manually Run'.
3. Click 'Then' and go to ‘Control devices’ (e.g. air conditioner) to customize device settings for your own personalized workout mode.
4. To mirror a workout video from your Samsung device to the TV, pull down the Quick panel and tap ‘Smart View’.
5. Select from the list of available devices. Enter the PIN in your phone and run your pre-set Exercise mode. Enjoy your workout!
