Why is my washing machine making noises and how to fix
Samsung washing machines are generally very quiet and most noises are either normal or can be easily corrected. Find out more, below, to identify the sound you are hearing.
This sound is often accompanied by movement from the washing machine, and typically has a steady pattern. The sound may or may not be muffled. This noise is normal when certain large items (like bedsheets or towels) are being washed.
If this occurs:
- Confirm the load is balanced.
- Make sure the washing machine is level.
- Check that the shipping bolts are removed.
A rattling sound may be the result of two things vibrating against each other. It can either be a constant noise or have an irregular pattern. Some types of clicking noises are normal at the beginning and end of a cycle.
If this type of noise occurs throughout the cycle:
- Make sure the washing machine is level.
- Look for anything rattling against the outside of the washing machine (like the power cable or drain hose).
- Check inside the washing machine drum for loose objects.
This type of noise is typically made by metal objects rubbing against each other. It can either be a constant noise or a repetitive noise, and the volume and/or pitch may increase or decrease. If this type of noise occurs, stop the cycle and reduce the weight of the load. In most cases, this noise is due to overloading.
This is the sound of the drain pump operating. This noise can occur intermittently. If the noise persists, clean your debris filter.
A knocking sound that follows a click sound, and fades away after a short moment, may be caused by the clutch in the washing machine’s motor. This is a normal sound and often heard when the machine is transitioning between two modes (for example, between washing and spinning). It may also be heard when the washing machine is off balance, caused by incorrect levelling or underloading).
A loud humming noise can occur if your home's water supply valve is not open and the machine is not getting any water. Connect the water hose and turn on the water supply valve.
This is a normal operating noise, most common during draining, and is louder when air is mixed in (for example, when the draining is almost finished) or on a spin-only cycle.
A sudden sound at the beginning of the filling operation that sounds like a cork coming off a bottle is the sound of the water valve opening. This is a normal sound.
