Our Commitment to Online Safety
At Samsung, under our global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) vision of ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People’, we are on a mission to empower future generations to achieve their full potential and pioneer positive social change through technology.
We recognise the importance of equipping parents, carers and guardians with the confidence and knowledge of online safety to ensure children and young people enjoy the benefits of technology safely.
We are building online safety into our product innovation through in-built apps, safety features and tools such as Galaxy for Families and Samsung Kids. Through our CSR programmes, we are working with partners such as Internet Matters to also offer educational content and workshops on online safety for young people, guardians and teachers.
Chief Customer Officer, Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland
Deborah Honig
“We believe that technology can make a real, positive impact on the lives of young people and their families. Whilst a lot of the dialogue surrounding online safety can focus on digital channels and software, it's equally important to understand the vital role that hardware can play towards safeguarding young people online. As one of world’s largest device and appliance manufacturers, we take this responsibility very seriously. Not only do we design our products with safety and security in mind, we’re also taking action, collaborating with organisations devoted to promoting online safety, and offering online and in-store educational programmes on our product safety features alongside practical workshops for children, teachers and parents.”
Key Features & Tools
Galaxy for Families
Create a Samsung Child Account for your child’s mobile device to set up boundaries that’s right for your family. Our parental control features include managing children’s access to websites, apps and games downloads and in-app purchases, sharing location and monitoring screen time. Follow our step-by-step guide to get started.
Samsung Kids
If a young child is using a shared family device, Samsung Kids could be right for you. It sets up a separate child-friendly home screen protected by a PIN (or biometrics) with the ability to add profiles for up to six children. You can manage children’s playtimes and access to specific contacts, websites and apps.
SOS Messages & More
Galaxy smartphones and smart watches allows you or your children to reach out for help and raise an SOS emergency alert. Up to four designated contacts will receive an auto-call and message with the device location and pictures from the camera as well as a five-second audio recording once set up.
Guardian’s can also check monitor permissions for camera, microphone and location of a device through our Privacy Dashboard and create Secure Folders to keep any files, images or apps private in a separate secure folder.
Samsung Smart TV & Fridges
Samsung Smart TVs have in-built parental controls to help manage what your child can access. You can make sure the content they are watching is age-appropriate by blocking programmes by rating or restricting access to certain apps.
Samsung Family Hub refrigerators come with a Wifi-enabled touchscreen and controls that lets you manage your groceries and connect with your family, stream music or mirror a compatible TV. You can manage security controls and set restrictions on Family Hub features and apps to make it safer for the whole family to use.
The Online Together Project
Together with our partner Internet Matters, we have developed a series of interactive educational tools to encourage open conversations about online safety between parents and children. The tool offers age-specific information and advice on topics such as tackling online hate and gender stereotypes online.
