Being a responsible champion for the environment isn’t just ideal — it’s empowering. Environmental stewardship starts with being conscious of how much energy you use, even in the details of a day. For example: choosing whether your laptop goes into sleep mode or continues to use power after inactivity. This might seem small, but using less electricity means power plants burn fewer fossil fuels, which in turn means fewer greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. On ENERGY STAR Day, we celebrate the impact of energy efficiency and the accomplishments of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program in its 29th year.

The work to reduce emissions is already underway. To date, the ENERGY STAR program has reduced roughly 5% of total U.S. emissions.² The change was driven by shoppers who choose ENERGY STAR products. Every Samsung tablet and laptop with an ENERGY STAR logo meets strict energy-efficiency criteria set by an accredited certification body and approved by the EPA. The blue label makes it easy to identify products that help you save money and protect the environment.
Students and teachers can make an immediate impact
Ideally, every classroom would be equipped with ENERGY STAR tablets and laptops so everyone can be part of the solution. Imagine a 12 year old writing a climate change essay on a tablet that reduces their energy use, such as the Galaxy Tab A or Galaxy Tab S7 FE. In addition, entire science classes could use efficient Galaxy Book Pro to investigate topics like optimizing battery life.
For middle schools, one way to make this a reality is to participate in the Climate Superstars Challenge, an online contest that gets kids excited about all the ways they can take an active role in caring for the planet’s future. The winner of this EPA-sponsored event gets $5,000 in Samsung classroom products.

Schools are just one place we can make a difference. Every aspect of our lives can be more energy efficient — from equipment at the office to appliances at home. Samsung has even taken the steps to power our U.S. worksites with 100% renewable energy.
Our commitment to a more sustainable future
As we make ENERGY STAR products a growing part of our lineup, we’re working toward a more sustainable future. To date, 100% of our tablets, laptops, front load washers and dishwashers are ENERGY STAR certified. They are some of the reasons the EPA awarded Samsung with the 2021 Corporate Commitment Award, which recognizes a company’s accomplishments, in addition to serving as a call to action to continue setting new benchmarks for other industry players.
One way we’re doing this is by ensuring that energy efficiency is accessible to everyone, at every price point.
“Some people may have the mistaken impression that energy efficient products are the premium products that cost the most. But actually, energy efficiency is found throughout our product line and throughout the ENERGY STAR program,” says John Godfrey, Senior Vice President, Public Policy at Samsung Electronics America. “We work closely with the EPA to help make ENERGY STAR the standard at home, school and in the office.”
In just the last 12 years, Samsung’s product efficiency improvements have saved the equivalent of taking more than 65 million cars off the road for a year.

Join us in celebrating ENERGY STAR Day
On the 29th anniversary of this important day, you can be a part of the energy-efficiency movement. That means choosing certified light bulbs that use two-thirds less energy than a standard incandescent bulb, or shopping for qualified refrigerators that are least 15% more efficient than the minimum federal standard.
Look for the ENERGY STAR label and join all of us making better decisions with the planet in mind.
