Microphone is not working on Samsung PC

Whether you're using a built-in microphone or one that's connected externally, there are multiple volume controls and potential places where the microphone might be muted. You'll need to check them all if your microphone isn't working.

Microphone is not working on Samsung PC

1
If you're using a headset, check if it has a physical mute button for the mic.
Some headsets come with a button to mute the microphone which will override anything that's set on the computer. Make sure the headset is not muting its own mic.
2
Unplug audio accessories.
Unplug any audio devices from the audio jacks, and remove any USB headphones or cameras. Some of these devices may also have microphones that are overriding the microphone you are trying to use.
3
Ensure Block recordings is not turned on.

If available, navigate to and open Samsung Security, and then select Security Cam.

4
Check the input settings.
Right-click the Sound icon on the PC's taskbar, and then select Sound settings. Make sure the microphone is selected in the Input section.
5
Increase the sound.
Select the Sound icon on the PC’s taskbar, then select Sound settings, and then select Device properties under the Input section. Adjust the volume level. If the microphone has been disabled, it will not appear in this section.
6
Test the microphone.

Stay on the Sound settings page and speak or make some noise. If the microphone is working correctly, you will see the bar in the Test your microphone section move.

On Windows 11, select All sound devices, select your input device, and then select Start test to test the microphone.

7
If the issue occurred after updating Windows, check that the app has permission to use the microphone.
Navigate to Settings, and then select Privacy or Privacy and security. Select Microphone, and then confirm the app you are trying to use has permission to access the microphone.
8
If the issue only occurs when using a certain app, check the app's settings.
Make sure the app you are trying to record with is adjusted correctly and that it's using the correct input device at the correct volume.
9
Reboot the PC.

There are several ways to do this. One way is to right-click the Start button, select Shut down or sign out, and then click Restart.

10
Try updating with Samsung Update.

If Samsung Update is available on your model, it will be preinstalled and can be found in the Start menu. If it isn't installed, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

Please be aware that models with an ARM processor, like the Galaxy Book S, cannot install the Samsung Update app. Models that do not support the Samsung Update app can be updated by Windows Updates instead (see the next step).

11
Try updating with Windows Updates.
Navigate to Settings, select Update & Security or Windows Update, and then check for updates. If any optional updates contain drivers, install them.
12
If you're using an external microphone, contact the manufacturer.
If your external microphone still isn't working, try installing the software and drivers provided by its manufacturer. If that still doesn't work, contact them directly for more support.
Note
If you're using an external microphone, service is not required unless its manufacturer indicates that the PC is the cause of the issue.
13
Request service.
If your microphone still doesn't work, visit our Support Center to request service.
