Galaxy phone or tablet Smart View or Screen Mirror issues

Smart View can be used with Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 4.3 or above and with devices that support Miracast wireless display technology. This technology is built into most newer Samsung smart TVs. However, your phone or tablet must be connected to the same network as your TV in order to use this function. If Smart View is not working, restarting or rebooting your device will usually solve the issue. Keep in mind that DRM-protected contents cannot be mirrored.

1

Connect to the same network.

Your phone or tablet should be connected to the same network as your Smart TV. Using two fingers, swipe down from the top of your device’s screen to open the Quick settings panel, and then touch and hold the Wi-Fi icon to open your device's Wi-Fi settings. Here you can check if it's connected to the right network and can change it if needed.

Additionally, disconnect from your VPN if a VPN setting error occurs.

Note
An unstable network connection may cause network errors or issues with video output.
2

Allow permissions on your TV.

Using two fingers, swipe down from the top of your device’s screen to open the Quick settings panel. Tap the Smart View icon, and then select your TV. If your TV requires permission, you will need to select ALLOW on your TV.
3

Check your TV’s software.

Make sure your TV’s software is up-to-date. If you have a Samsung TV, check the available software updates from the Settings menu. Consult your manufacturer if you have another brand of TV.
4

Adjust the aspect ratio on your phone or tablet.

If your device’s image looks too small on the TV’s screen, you can try adjusting the aspect ratio in Smart View. On the phone or tablet, tap the blue Smart View icon, and then tap Phone or tablet aspect ratio. From here, you can choose your desired settings.
5

Reboot your TV and mobile device.

Most Samsung TVs can be rebooted by pressing and holding the TV's Power button on the remote until you see the Samsung logo. You can also unplug the AC power cord, and then plug it back in. For other TV brands, check with the manufacturer.

Reboot your Galaxy phone or tablet by pressing and holding the Side button and Volume down button until the power menu appears. Tap Restart, and then tap Restart again.

  • Some carriers require a Wi-Fi network connection and will not allow you to update using mobile data.
  • If an error occurs during a software update and your phone or tablet keeps restarting, learn how to get out of a boot loop.

Perform a factory data reset on your phone or tablet
Perform a factory data reset on your phone or tablet
Warning
You may need your Samsung account password or Lock screen password when resetting your phone or tablet. All your data will be erased. However, before resetting your device, you can use Smart Switch or a cloud account to back up your data onto an SD card or USB drive. If you have encrypted your SD card, it must be decrypted before resetting your device.
1

Prepare your phone or tablet for reset.

  • Make sure to back up your phone or tablet. All data and settings will be erased.

  • Write down the username and password for the account that you used to back up your data.

  • We recommend having your phone or tablet plugged into the wall charger during the reset process because it may take up to an hour.

  • If you have encrypted the SD Card inserted in to your phone or tablet, make sure to decrypt it before the reset. Navigate to Settings, search for and select SD, and then tap Decrypt SD card.

2

Perform the reset.

Navigate to Settings. Search for and select Factory data reset. Tap Factory data reset again, and then tap Reset. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset. You may need to enter your Samsung account password or Lock screen password. The phone or tablet will reboot.
3

Set up the device.

When the phone or tablet reboots, it will have its original factory settings. Now you will need to go through the initial setup to finish setting up the phone or tablet. The phone may require you to enter your Samsung or Google account information to complete the setup.
4

Test the device.

Before installing any apps, make sure that your phone or tablet is functioning normally.

If you are still encountering any issues, please visit a Samsung walk-in service center or you can schedule a repair service online.

Note
If you are still experiencing network service issues with calling, SMS or MMS messages, network signals, mobile data, or hotspots after resetting the device, you may need to contact your carrier.
