Spectre and Meltdown

In 2018 security researchers published reports on vulnerabilities that exploit features found commonly in many modern computer processors. Most versions of Windows have been updated to address the vulnerabilities, and there may be some BIOS updates available that will further protect your system.

Check for BIOS updates.
  1. Open Samsung Update. If it has been uninstalled it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
  2. If a BIOS update is available, it will be listed on the Drivers tab. Other updates may also be available, so click Update All.
  3. Some updates may require reboots or other interaction, so follow any instructions that may appear.
  4. If the BIOS screen does not appear, please change the DisplayPort version on the monitor. Navigate to: Menu > System > DisplayPort Version > 1.1 or 1.2.

Update Windows.

Windows updates will include patches for vulnerabilities such as these, as well as performance and functionality upgrades.

  1. Open the Start Menu and then click the Settings icon.
  2. Click Update & Security.
  3. Click Windows Update.
  4. Click Check for updates. If any updates are available, they will automatically start downloading and installing. Some updates may require a reboot, but you will be given an opportunity to save anything you are working on before the PC shuts down.
