Using our Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method (CDCVM) solution, this may also mean you no longer have to input your PIN on the Point of Sales terminal for high value transactions.

Samsung Pay Transit
Set up your default transport card on Samsung Pay and use your Samsung device to pay for travel for Transport for NSW services including Buses, Trains, Ferries and Light Rail. You will receive the same travel benefits of an Adult Opal card.
Once you’re set up, simply place the back of your phone against the card reader, with the rear camera positioned in the middle of the reader, to tap on or off. No need to wake or unlock your phone.

Samsung Pay is a secure and easy-to-use mobile payment service which is designed to make purchases almost everywhere.5
It enables the use of credit cards from participating financial institutions and loyalty cards from participating merchants. To help make mobile payments and scanning loyalty cards more accessible to merchants and customers, Samsung has included Near Field Communication (NFC)*, Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST)†, and MoBeam technologies.
Samsung Pay is available on Australian Samsung Smartphones only. Samsung devices from other countries may not support Samsung Pay in Australia.

- Can I use Samsung Pay in foreign countries?

Due to Samsung's advance proprietary technology Magnetic Secure Transaction (MST), Samsung Pay can be used almost everywhere around the globe. Please check your card issuer’s policies for transactions in foreign countries. If you can use your physical card in the country you are travelling to, you should be able to use Samsung Pay to make a payment.
- Why should I use Samsung Pay instead of my plastic cards?

Samsung Pay offers a simple and convenient payment experience that doesn’t require searching through your wallet or purse. Additionally, Samsung Pay adds a level of security to your payment information that physical cards don’t have. Your credit or debit card number will never be saved on your device. When you make a payment with Samsung Pay, only a token and a cryptogram that is only valid for that particular payment are transmitted to the card reader.

- How do I install Samsung Pay?

- From the Home screen, touch Apps.
- Touch Samsung Pay.
- Touch INSTALL to download the necessary files.
- If there are updates to the built-in application, touch INSTALL.
- Touch OPEN to start using Samsung Pay.
- How to add a card?

- From the Home screen, touch Apps.
- Touch Samsung Pay.
- Touch ADD or, if this is the first payment card being added, touch Add a credit card or debit card.
- Align your card inside the frame to automatically detect the card number and expiration date.
Note: Touch Enter card manually if your device cannot detect the card information. - Please verify the information captured by the camera.
- Enter the remaining information and touch NEXT.
- Review the terms and conditions, and then touch AGREE TO ALL.
- If necessary, select a method to authenticate your identity using a one-time password (OTP) or by calling the bank.
- Enter the OTP and touch SUBMIT.
- Enter your signature like you would sign on the back of your card and touch SAVE.
Note: If you are unsatisfied with your signature, touch Retry to sign again. - Touch DONE to complete the process.
- After your card is added to Samsung Pay, it will be verified by the payment card network (i.e., Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) and the card issuer. On average, verification will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes. During that time, you will be unable to use your card in Samsung Pay.
Note: You can continue to add cards while others are being verified. - After the card is verified, it can be used immediately to make a purchase.
- How to Setup Samsung Pay?

- From the Home screen, touch Apps.
- Touch Samsung Pay.
- The first time you open Samsung Pay, a short introduction video will play.
Note: Touch SKIP to bypass the introduction and continue the setup process. - Your Samsung account will be automatically linked to Samsung Pay. Touch START to continue.
Note: If you have yet to sign in to your Samsung account, touch SIGN IN and enter your email address and password information. If you do not have an account, you can create a Samsung account on your device. - Touch USE FINGERPRINT to assign your fingerprint as the verification method. If you have not registered your fingerprint on the device, you will be given the chance to add a fingerprint. It will walk you through adding a fingerprint for the first time.
Note: You can also assign a four-digit Samsung Pay PIN code instead of using your fingerprint. Touch Skip and use Samsung Pay PIN.
Here is how to set up the fingerprint- If you have a secure lock on your device other than a fingerprint, enter the password, PIN, or pattern.
- Place your finger on the Home key, and then lift it off once you feel a vibration. Repeat until you have reached 100%. To ensure your whole fingerprint is recorded, move your finger slightly each time you touch the key, fully covering the key with your finger.
- Scan the fingerprint you just registered for verification.
- Create a Samsung Pay PIN for payment authentication and application protection.
- Re-enter the PIN to confirm.
- You are now ready to add your payment cards and use Samsung Pay.
- How do I make in-store purchases with Samsung Pay?

- Initiate Samsung Pay by either swiping-up from the home button or opening the Samsung Pay app from the home screen.
- Select the card you want to pay with by swiping left or right.
- Verify your fingerprint and touch your phone to either the card reader or NFC reader to complete the transaction. Alternatively, enter your 4-digit Samsung Pay PIN if you have chosen not to use the fingerprint feature. Please note that you must wait until the verification is over before touching your phone to the reader or an error might occur.
- Where can I use Samsung Pay?

- Can Samsung Pay make online or in-app purchases?

- How can I cancel a payment made using Samsung Pay?

Cancelling a payment made with Samsung Pay is the same as a physical card. The exact process will depend on the policies of your card issuer and the merchant you made the purchase from.
- How do I return a purchase if I used Samsung Pay to make the payment?

All purchases made with Samsung Pay can be returned according to the store’s policies. If you return an item paid for with Samsung Pay, the store may require you to tap your phone onto either the card reader or the NFC reader to complete the return.
- Do I need to have an active internet data connection for Samsung Pay to work?

Samsung Pay requires an active internet connection for card registration and activation. However, an active internet connection is not required to make in-store purchases. Ideally, the device should connect to the internet once per day to ensure that Samsung Pay stays up to date. Cards should allow you to make up to 10 transactions before you will need to connect to the internet and refresh the Samsung Pay token.
- How can I keep track of purchases I've made with Samsung Pay?

Up to 10 of your latest transactions1 made with Samsung Pay can be viewed in the Samsung Pay app for one month from the time of purchase. Simply tap on a registered card in the app to see all the Samsung Pay transactions made with that card2.
Additionally, a real-time3 push notifications with transaction details can be sent after each Samsung Pay purchase.

- For some cards, Samsung Pay is not keeping track of purchases I have made using the app. Is there an issue with the app or my card?

No. Displaying transaction history is not available for all card types or card issuers. Samsung Pay may not show your transaction history depending on the policies set by your card issuer.
In these cases, you can open your card issuer’s app from the Samsung Pay interface if you have the app installed on your device; or visit your card issuer’s website or login in to your online banking portal to view transaction information.
- The card image I see in Samsung Pay does not match my physical card. Is there an issue with my card?

No. The card displayed in Samsung Pay may not always exactly match the physical card.
The key points to look for are:
- The Card Issuer
- The Card Network
- The last four digits of the physical card.
- What should I do if I lose my original payment card and then receive a replacement card?

Subject to the answer above, the payment cards on Samsung Pay are designed to be digital versions of your physical payment cards. If you lose your original payment card and then receive a replacement card, you may need to remove the original payment card from Samsung Pay and register the replacement card.
- Can I continue to use my physical payment card if I disable Samsung Pay or remove the digital equivalent on Samsung Pay?

Yes. When you disable Samsung Pay or remove a registered card, you are only suspending the token, or digital card number, that has been assigned to your device for that card. If you wish to suspend you physical card, please contact your card issuer for assistance.
- How is my default payment card in Samsung Pay determined?

There is not a "default" card in Samsung Pay. When you open the app or activate the Simple Pay feature by swiping up from the Home Key on supported screens, the first card displayed is either the last card you registered or the last card you viewed or used.
- What is the "Retry" button I see when I am trying to make a payment?

The “retry” button appears when the countdown timer has reached its end and the device has not detected an NFC payment or has not received a notification of a successful payment.
The “retry” button allows you to begin the payment process, one additional time, without reauthorizing using your fingerprint or PIN.
Note: When an NFC transaction is completed, the retry button will not be shown. Additionally, if a payment success notification is received, the retry button will not be shown.
- The cashier is asking me for the last four digits of my card number. I provided them the number, but the transaction failed. What went wrong?

In rare cases, the merchant may ask the you for the last four digits of the card number.
You will need to provide the last four digits of the digital card number, instead of the last four digits of the physical card. For ease of use, it is located on the left side of the card in the Simple Pay screen, and in the main app when viewing your registered cards.
- Can I use Samsung Pay at an ATM?

You can use Samsung Pay at eligible ANZ ATM’s.
- What do I need to start using Samsung Pay?

To use Samsung Pay, you need:
- A compatible Samsung device1
- A supported payment card from a participating bank

- How can I register my card?

Cards can be either registered by scanning your physical card while in the Samsung Pay app or manually inputting the card information. Then, depending on the policies set by your bank, Samsung Pay will prompt you to verify your identity through a text message, or a phone call.
- How many cards can I register into Samsung Pay?

You can register up to 10 payment cards in Samsung Pay.
- Can I register the same card with more than one device using Samsung Pay?

Yes. The total number of devices you can register a card may vary, as determined by your card issuer. Contact your card issuer for more details on the number of devices you can register your card on.
- How long will it take for my card to activate after registering it to Samsung Pay?

The average amount of time between the request for activation and approval may be within minutes, but can take up to 10 minutes after any additional verification requirements have been met. If this amount of time has been exceeded, remove the card from Samsung Pay and register it again. Contact your card issuer for assistance if you continue to encounter delays.
- When I attempt to register a card to Samsung Pay, a message is telling me that it cannot provision my card and to contact my bank. What can I do?

We suggest contacting the card issuer for further information. Not all card types are eligible to use with Samsung Pay.
Additionally, there may be other items required prior registering a card with the Samsung Pay service. Only your card issuer will have these details.
- Can I use Wi-Fi to register my card in Samsung Pay?

Yes. However, for the best experience, the device should have a SIM card installed. If you encounter any issues when registering the card over Wi-Fi, we suggest switching to a mobile data connection.
- Can I register a card when I am outside Australia?

- I can't see the new loyalty features in my app. How do I get this?

If you haven't got the latest version of Samsung Pay (version 2.4.33),
- Open Samsung Pay App
- Click ‘More’ and click ‘Settings’
- Click ‘About Samsung Pay’
- If your app version is below 2.4.33, click 'Update'
- How can I add an existing loyalty card to Samsung Pay?

In Samsung Pay select “Add” and then “Load loyalty card”, and then you can search for and select a merchant from the merchant list. Then follow instructions to scan the barcode or manually enter the card number for that merchant.
- What if I can't find a loyalty card I want in the loyalty tab?

You can add a card by manually selecting “Add a card that is not on the list.”
- Can I add cards without a barcode?

Yes. To do so, click “Add” then “Add a card that is not on the list” then “Enter card manually” and then take a picture of the front and/or back of the card and fill in relevant information. You will not be able to scan to redeem points and discounts but you can keep this card in Samsung Pay for safe and convenient access.
- How many loyalty cards can I add?

You can add as many loyalty cards as you want; however, only a total of 12 cards (loyalty, credit cards) can be displayed by Samsung Pay when using Simple Pay. You may select which credit and loyalty cards you would like to access with Simple Pay by selecting “More”, “Settings”, “Edit Simple Pay”.
- Which loyalty cards can I add to Samsung Pay?

You should be able to add almost any merchant’s loyalty card to Samsung Pay by either selecting a merchant from the list (and then scanning that card’s bar code or manually entering the card number) or by manually adding the merchant card details.*
- How do I present my loyalty card?

When you checkout at the cashier, activate Simple Pay. If you have made your loyalty card visible in Simple Pay, swipe across the screen until your loyalty card appears, tap the screen and show the cashier the bar code that appears at the top of the screen. If your loyalty card is not in Simple Pay, tap on “LOYALTY CARDS” in the upper right corner of the Simple Pay screen. A banner will appear showing your loyalty cards that you can swipe to the left or right to find your store’s loyalty card. Tap on the card and its bar code or number will appear above the card. Show the bar code to the cashier so they may scan it. Or, if the card does not have a bar code or if the bar code is not scanning properly, show the card number to the cashier.
- What happens to my loyalty card after I decide not to use it?

If you no longer wish to shop at that merchant or use their loyalty card, simply delete the loyalty card in the loyalty tab and it will no longer appear in Samsung Pay.
- Can I use the same payment card with more than one device using Samsung Pay?

There are no Samsung restrictions on adding the same payment card to multiple devices. However, the total number of devices you can add the same card may vary by the card issuer. For additional information contact the card issuer.
- How can I create my own Samsung Pay account?

When you open Samsung Pay for the first time, you will be asked to sign in to a Samsung account if one is not already on the device. If you do not have an account, you can create one at that time.
- How secure is Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay uses Tokenization, a Secure Environment, and Samsung KNOX to secure your payment information. Additionally, you verify either using your fingerprint or a 4-digit PIN when making purchases.
- What is Tokenization?

Tokenization is a method of replacing your sensitive payment card information (Card Number, Expiration Date, Security code, etc.) with a device-specific ‘Token’ which acts as a surrogate value. In mobile payments, Tokens are used to protect your payment information and to help reduce the security risks inherent to plastic cards.
- What is a Secure Environment, or Trusted Execution Environment?

A Secure Environment is a physically segregated chip in the phone which only allows access to highly sensitive operations/information such as fingerprint and payment information. Normal applications and malware have no access to the information in a Secure Environment.
- How is Samsung KNOX used with Samsung Pay?

Samsung KNOX runs scans to see if your device is secure. Samsung KNOX can permanently disable Samsung Pay on a compromised device in order to help protect your payment information.
- Does Samsung Pay store my personal/payment information on a server or my device?

No. Samsung does not store your personal/payment information on a Samsung server or the device.
Samsung Pay does not change the way your payment information is stored or handled when you make purchases. Your payment information will continue to be managed by your card network and card issuer.
Only a device-specific Token, which is used to replace your sensitive payment information, is stored on the device.
- What should I do if my device is lost or stolen?

If your device is lost or stolen, you can use Samsung’s Find My Mobile service to remotely Lock or Wipe your device (also Locking or Wiping Samsung Pay and all the payment cards registered in it).
- If I would to switch phones, do I need to add the cards all over again?

You would need to register your cards again if you were to change your phone as no data will be stored in the application. Your loyalty cards can be restored.
- Does Samsung Pay have access to my bank accounts?

No. Samsung Pay does not have access to your bank accounts.
- Will my Samsung Pay information still be on my device if it is formatted?

No. Formatting your device will remove all payment cards registered to your device.
- How do I use "Find My Mobile" to manage Samsung Pay?

If your device is lost or stolen, your payment information will not be accessible without your fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN. For added security, the Samsung Find My Mobile service can remotely Lock or Wipe your device (also Locking or Wiping Samsung Pay and registered payment cards in it).

Near Field Communication or NFC is a method of wirelessly transmitting data using radio waves. Samsung Pay uses NFC to wirelessly transmit payment data to payment terminals with NFC readers that have been activated for use.
- What is MST?

Magnetic Secure Transmission™ or MST, is a ground-breaking method of sending data using magnetic waves. MST is designed to replicate a card swipe by wirelessly transmitting magnetic waves from the supported Samsung device to a standard card reader. MST has the capability to turn every standard card reader into a contactless payment receiver.
- What is the difference between MST and NFC technology?

For Samsung Pay, either MST or NFC technology can be used to make secure, contactless transactions. The key difference is that approximately 85% of all merchants can accept MST. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether or not Samsung Pay’s MST component will be adopted in Australia.
- Which is more secure, MST or NFC?

In the context of Samsung Pay, MST and NFC have the same level of security. The payment information transmitted by both MST and NFC is protected using tokenization.
- How close does the device have to be to the card reader for MST to work?

The device must be placed within 3cm of the card reader in order for MST to work.
- How accurate is the fingerprint scanner?

The fingerprint scanner is very accurate.
- What happens if my fingerprint is not recognised?

You can enter the Samsung Pay PIN you created as a backup option. Samsung Pay will remove the data from the app and deregister all linked cards, if the fingerprint is not recognised after 20 consecutive attempts and the Samsung Pay PIN has not been entered.
- If I send in my phone for repair, do I have to reset Samsung Pay?

All payment information in Samsung Pay will be deleted. You will need to set up Samsung Pay and add your payment card information again.
- If I reset my device, what happens to my Samsung Pay service?

When performing a factory data reset, all payment information in Samsung Pay will be deleted. You will need to set up and add your payment card information into Samsung Pay again after your device has been reset.
- What should I do if I have an issue adding a payment card to Samsung Pay?

Please contact the card issuer and verify you are adding an eligible payment card. Some cards from participating banks may not be supported in Samsung Pay.
Samsung Pay also requires an active internet connection when adding a payment card. Verify that you are connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi network or your mobile data connection.
- How does Samsung Pay work on Gear?

Samsung Pay works on Gear by using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technologies, allowing users to make a payment at almost anywhere†.
Once you have enabled Samsung Pay on Gear, you simply press and hold the 'back' key to launch the app, select desired card, and pay by holding your Gear near the payment terminal. For best results, however your Gear about one half-inch over the payment terminal. Samsung Pay on Gear doesn’t store or share your payment information, so you can pay without worry.
- What are the device/OS requirements for Samsung Pay on Gear?

No. Samsung Pay on Gear does not currently support the eftpos network. We hope to support this service in the near future.
- How do I use Samsung Pay on Gear?

Once you have activated Samsung Pay on your Gear and added your compatible cards, simply press and hold the ‘back’ key to launch Samsung Pay. Select your desired card, press the Pay button on your Gear and place your Gear near to the POS terminal of the participating payment network, bank or merchant.
- How do I make in-store purchases with Samsung Pay on Gear?

- After putting on your Gear, you will be prompted to enter PIN once to authenticate the device. Samsung Pay on Gear needs to be authenticated each time the Gear smartwatch is put on and requires a periodic connection to a compatible smartphone with Samsung Pay and internet access.
- Press and hold the Back button to launch Samsung Pay.
- The last card used or latest card added will be shown (If you have more than one card added, select the card you want to pay by swiping left or right, or by rotating the bezel to select card).
- Tap on the "Pay" button to make payment.
- Place the top crown of your Gear near the NFC or MST area to pay.
- Do I need to have an active internet data connection for Samsung Pay on Gear to work?

Samsung Pay on Gear must be connected to a compatible smartphone with an active internet data connection for card registration and activation. However, an active internet data connection is not required to make in-store purchases. Ideally, the Gear device should connect to the internet via your smartphone once per day to ensure that Samsung Gear Pay stays updated with security tokens from your participating bank. Most cards will allow you to make up to 10 transactions before you will need to connect to the internet and refresh the Samsung Gear Pay information.
- How can I keep track of purchases I’ve made with Samsung Pay on Gear?

The transaction history is shown in the Samsung Pay companion app in Samsung Gear Manager on your compatible smartphone. Periodic connection to a compatible phone with internet connection required.

Please note that the number of transactions is subjected to the card issuing bank's policies.
- Can I make refunds with Samsung Pay on Gear?

Yes, you can make refunds with Samsung Pay on Gear, the same way refunds are made with credit or debit cards. In case merchants require you to enter PIN no, you need to enter your credit or debit card's PIN no and not the Samsung Pay PIN.
Depending on merchant policies, you might be required to show your plastic card when making refunds.
- How many cards can I register into Samsung Pay on Gear?

- How can I register my card in Samsung Pay on Gear?

You can register your compatible cards through Samsung Gear Manager. Here's how:
- Launch Samsung Gear Manager on your compatible Mobile.
- Connect your phone to Gear via Bluetooth if it is not already connected.
- Tap on "Open Samsung Pay" under Info tab or "Samsung Pay" on Settings tab.
- Tap on "Add card" shown on the screen to register your card. You will be required to set up a secure PIN in your Gear if you have not enabled the secure PIN lock.
- You can either scan your physical cards or enter your cards details to add your cards in Samsung Pay.
- Depending on the policies set by your issuing bank, Samsung Pay will prompt you to verify your digital card.

No. Samsung Pay app in your mobile is different from Samsung Pay in Gear Manager. You need to register your cards separately in Samsung Gear Manager on your mobile in order to use Samsung Pay on your Gear.
- Can I add Loyalty Cards on Samsung Pay on Gear?

No. Samsung Pay on Gear does not support Loyalty Cards at the moment. You can add your Loyalty cards on Samsung Pay App for mobile.
- How secure is Samsung Pay on Gear? Without a fingerprint scanner, how can I be sure someone won’t use my cards if I lose my watch?

Samsung Pay on Gear protects your card information with the advanced security by using tokenization, KNOX and PIN protection to make secure payments. Card data is synced to Gear from your mobile device via a secured Bluetooth channel.
Once Samsung Pay is activated on your Gear, your Gear will enable the PIN protection. You must enter your PIN each time you put on the Gear, and you won’t need to enter your PIN again until you take your Gear off.
- Is the PIN of Samsung Pay on Gear the same as the Gear device PIN?

Yes. There is only one secure PIN used on the Gear.
- Do I have to enter my secure PIN for each payment?

If the Gear is strapped on your wrist, you only have to enter the secure PIN once before all subsequent payments. If you take the Gear off your wrist, your have to enter the secure PIN each time before putting the Gear into payment mode.
- How many seconds after a user takes the watch off their wrist will they be de-authenticated?

Keep your eyes open fully and look at the top of the screen. Iris recognition may not work properly in direct sunlight. For best results, avoid direct sunlight and perform this process indoors. And, keep the camera clean as dirt and debris on the iris camera, LED sensor, or proximity sensor may cause the device to have difficulty recognizing your irises. Position your eyes inside the circles on the screen and open your eyes wide. The iris recognition camera will scan your irises.
- When an iris lock pop-up window appears, tap ENABLE to use your irises to unlock the screen.
- When you swipe in any direction on the locked screen, the iris recognition screen will appear.Look at the screen to scan your irises. If your iris is not recognized within 10 seconds or you are close to it, the device will automatically stop iris recognition to protect your eyes
- Sometimes Iris recognition do not work properly and IR LED for Iris recognition may work wrong. Also, some features regarding Proximity sensor do not work properly. What should I do for this?

Please check you attach unofficial screen protectors (privacy protection films, tempered glass protectors, etc.) to your device. Keep in mind do not cover the proximity/light sensor area with screen accessories, such as a screen protector or stickers. Doing so may cause the sensor to malfunction and the iris recognition LED may not turn off even when you are very close to it.
- Is it available to register iris pattern with one eye only?

When you are wearing glasses with a strong prescription glasses, sunglasses, color contact lenses, or circular contact lenses, the device may not recognize your irises. If you are wearing those lenses, remove them before registering your irises. And, when wearing glasses, the light reflected from glass surface can interfere the sensor, leading to failure in recognition in some cases. If it is the case, taking glasses off or adjusting the angle of sight is recommended to get it done.
- Is there any possibility of the personal iris information stored in the device being hacked?

Iris information is digitized and saved in trust zone as an encryption code, which is very safe. So there are no worries about hacking.
- Which devices will support Samsung Pay with Iris?

Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S9, S9+ & Note 8 are the only devices that support iris scanning.
- What are contactless payments for transport journeys and how do they work?

Transport for NSW has launched contactless payments functionality which means you can now tap on and tap off on all transport services using an accepted contactless payment card, instead of using an Opal card.
The solution works with most American Express, Mastercard and Visa credit / debit cards, or a Samsung smartphone or wearable device linked to one of these cards via Samsung Pay. Contactless payments can be made on Sydney Trains, Sydney Ferries light rail and bus services.
Contactless fares are the same price as a standard (peak) Adult Opal fare for the same trip. Opal Daily, Weekly and Sunday travel caps are also applied if you consistently use the same card (or device linked to that card). Opal benefits such as Weekly Travel Rewards, Transfer Discounts, Off-peak train fare discounts, Trip Advantage are also now available to contactless travel. However free access to Opal Park&Ride car parks are not available with contactless payments.

No. The eftpos network does not currently support Open Loop transport ticketing.
- What is the Transport Card solution in Samsung Pay?

Samsung Pay’s Transport Card solution allows you to use the contactless payments solution, as described above, on a Samsung device.
In Samsung Pay, you select your preferred debit or credit card as your default transport card, and then you can just tap on or tap off at the transit reader using your Samsung device, just as if you were using an Opal card. There is no need to wake up or unlock your phone; and you do not need to swipe up and authenticate, as required when you pay in a retail store.
Note: the phone must be turned on, but the screen can be off.
- Where is the best place to tap my phone on the transport card reader?

The NFC (Near Field Communication) reader is located on the back of the phone, near the rear camera. Simply tap your phone on the card reader, with the rear camera above the middle of the reader, to tap on or off.
- What does it cost to use Samsung Pay’s Transport Card solution compared to using an Opal Card?

- How can I setup a default transport card?

- Open the Samsung Pay app, select the <Home> button and then select <Transport card>, <Start>
- Select 'Use transport card'
- Select a payment card as your default transport card for use on Transport for NSW services.
Alternatively, when registering a new payment card, select 'Make default transport card' to set as your default transport card.
- On my Samsung Pay transaction history, I receive a $1 charge notification when I "tap on" using Samsung Pay. This is not the correct fare. Why do I receive this?

The $1 notification message is a pre-authorisation check, which verifies if your payment card is valid and has credit. This $1 pre-authorisation is not charged to your debit / credit account. Only the correct fare will be charged, which you will see on your financial institution statement once the transaction has been processed by your bank.
Note: The above experience is only for Visa and American Express transactions. Mastercard has supressed this $1 notification message for its cards.
- When can I expect to see my travel costs on my payment card statement?

This depends on your bank. Overnight, Transport for NSW will total up your travel charges for the day and then send to your financial institution for processing. Once your financial institution has processed the payment, you will see the transit charges on your financial institution statement – this typically happens within 24 to 72 hours. If you have any concerns, contact your financial institution.
- If an authorised officer wants to validate my journey, what do I do?

When an authorised officer asks if you have a valid ticket, tap the back of your phone to the authorised officer’s device – place the devices flat against each other. The authorised officer application on the Samsung Smartphone will detect if you have a valid train ticket. Your phone must be on for the validation to work (so be sure to check you have enough charge for your journey).
- Can I tap my phone on a merchant’s terminal to pay for goods without previously authenticating, as I can do for transport journeys?

No. For all transactions, except transit ticketing for Transport for NSW, you are required to authenticate via biometrics or PIN before payment.
- I have set up a transport card but it’s not working at the transport card reader. Why could this be?

You may have switched your default wallet to another digital wallet other than Samsung Pay. Check your Settings as follows:
- Swipe down from the top of the unlocked screen and select <Settings>, then select <Connections>, <NFC and payment>, <Tap and Pay> and make sure Samsung Pay is selected as your default wallet.
- Can I still swipe up and authenticate for transport travel if I want?

Yes, this is possible. However you must authenticate the transaction, just as you would when making a standard payment. If you swipe up but don’t authenticate, the transaction will fail. Either close Samsung Pay and tap, or swipe up and authenticate to make a successful transit transaction.
- If I am talking on the phone or listening to music, will the Transport Card solution work?

Yes. You can use any application concurrently when tapping on the transit reader, just tap your phone and continue.
- Does the Transport Card solution work if the phone is switched off or if there is no battery life?
-
No. Your phone needs to be switched on, with battery life.
- Does the Transport Card solution work if the phone battery is less than 5%?

Yes. Remember that, if you put your phone in power saving mode, you can help extend your battery life. Please note, the solution will not work if your phone battery is flat and your phone turns off. We recommend that you make sure you have enough charge to complete your journey.
- Can I switch to a different transport card?

Yes, there are two ways of doing this:
- Select <Home>, select <Transport Card>, and then tap on your default card to reveal a list of possible transport cards. Simply select your preferred payment card from the list.
- Select <Home>, select <Transport Card>, select the Android ’over flow’ menu at the top right of screen and select <Set up transport card>. You will see a list of possible transport cards, now simply select your preferred payment card from the list.
- Can I change my transport card to a different payment card in the middle of a trip?

This is technically possible, however it’s not advised. The Transport for NSW billing system requires you to tap on / off using the same card. You may be charged an incorrect fare by not using the same card when tapping off.
- Can I use the Samsung Pay Transport Card solution on other transport systems outside of Sydney?

No, this is not available today. Once the solution becomes more widely available, we will let you know.
- Can I pay for trips using Samsung wearable devices?

Yes, you can pay using Gear S2, Gear S3, Gear Sport, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active Galaxy Watch Active 2. To use, long press the top button, tap the ‘Pay’ button and then tap your wearable to the transit reader. Just the same as if you were making a standard payment.
- WHO IS EFTPOS AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

Eftpos (eftpos) is a privately-run Australian debit card payment system. A long-standing staple of the country’s financial landscape, it has allowed electronic payments at the point of sale either a plastic or a digital card, in much the same way that Visa and Mastercard does. eftpos capability is present on all debit cards in Australia. Further to the above, some of these are eftpos debit cards only, but many are dual network cards, so are either Visa/eftpos cards or Mastercard/eftpos cards. eftpos also processes a range of pre-paid cards and gift cards. It does not process credit card transactions. eftpos is an unlisted, Australian-owned company.
- USING A MULTI-NETWORK CARD ON SAMSUNG PAY, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAKING A PAYMENT USING EFTPOS AS OPPOSED TO USING VISA / MASTERCARD?

There is no difference in user experience. Users swipe up to access the card in the normal way, select to pay via eftpos or via Visa/Mastercard and the payment is processed by the relevant payment network in the usual way. The only difference is in the Transaction history, where users can see which network was used for each transaction.
- SO WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN USING EFTPOS AND VISA/MASTERCARD?

There are five key differences between eftpos and Visa/Mastercard, as at October 2020. Note that these differences may change over time:
- Processing: eftpos transactions take funds instantly from your bank account, so your bank balance is constantly up-to-date. Visa/Mastercard transactions typically take from 24 hours to 3 days to be processed.
- Cash out: eftpos enables you to get ‘cash out’ from the checkout at selected merchants. This is not possible via Visa / Mastercard.
- Online payments: You can make online transactions using Visa / Mastercard. It is not currently possible to make online payments using eftpos (as at October 2020). On Samsung Pay, online payments using a multi-network card will be automatically routed via Visa / Mastercard.
- Open-loop transit: Visa and Mastercard support open-loop transit payments, such as on Transport for NSW’s Opal network. eftpos does not currently support this. Transit payments on Samsung Pay will be automatically routed via Visa / Mastercard.
- International payments: With Visa and Mastercard, users can make payments overseas. eftpos only supports domestic transactions.
- Does Samsung Pay access or collect information about my location?

In order to verify your identity, Samsung Pay may access location information obtained from your device when you register your payment card, but only if ‘Location’ is turned on in your device settings. Samsung Pay will not be able to access your location information if you have turned ‘Location’ off in your device settings.
- What is CDVCM?

Consumers who make high value contactless payments today need to verify that they are the cardholder. They can do this by inputting their PIN into a merchant Point of Sale system.
CDCVM, which stands for Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method, allows consumers to provide this verification via their mobile phone or other compatible device – so using a fingerprint, a PIN or an iris scan on Samsung devices – so they no longer need to touch the merchant POS.
Given than Samsung Pay users already have to authenticate before each payment – via a fingerprint, PIN or iris scan – CDCVM means that no additional verification method is required for High Value Payments.

- Do I need to reload my card into Samsung Pay to support CDCVM?

If you pay with a Visa or an American Express card, the CDCVM solution has been automatically updated onto your card. If you pay with a Mastercard and you loaded your card before Tuesday 21 July, you will need to delete and re-load your card in order for CDCVM to work.
- Does CDCVM work for everyone, everywhere and all the time?

No, there are dependencies. Whilst Samsung Pay does support CDCVM, the following must also support CDCVM in order to allow for the feature to work at the checkout:
- Your card issuer;
- The card network – Visa, Mastercard, American Express and eftpos; and
- The POS terminal in the merchant store.
If not all parties support CDCVM, then the user will be asked to input their PIN into the merchant POS in the usual manner.
- What is the benefit of CDCVM for consumers?

This makes for an easier, faster and more convenient checkout experience, and it reduces the number of times a consumer needs to touch the merchant Point of Sale system.
