Replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator
Ensuring your Samsung refrigerator dispenses clean, fresh water involves using a clean water filter. We recommend replacing the water filter every six months for optimal performance. The built-in water filter light on your refrigerator serves as a convenient reminder for this replacement schedule and should be reset each time you install a new filter. For guaranteed quality and compatibility, use only Samsung Genuine Water Filters available on our official website.
Important: Avoid third-party water filters as they may cause leaks and potentially damage your refrigerator.
Identifying the correct water filter
Samsung refrigerators are compatible with three specific water filter models. To select the right one:
Find your filter's location in your refrigerator (varies by model) – consult your user manual if needed.
Check the model number on the existing filter to identify whether you need a HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN, or HAFCU1 filter.
Replacing the water filter
Follow these simple steps to replace your water filter, which should take just a few minutes:
HAF-CIN and HAF-QIN filter types:
Turn off the water supply.
Locate the filter, open the cover, and rotate the old filter counterclockwise to unlock and remove it.
Remove the protection cap from the new filter, insert it into the housing, and turn clockwise until locked into place. Align the lock symbol with the indicator line.
HAFCU1 filter types:
Turn off the water supply.
Locate the filter and twist it left to unlock and remove.
Insert the new filter into the housing and twist right to secure it. Align the notch with the arrow on the housing.
After installation, dispense several gallons of water to clear out any impurities or air, then reset the water filter indicator light on your fridge.
Resetting the water filter light
The indicator light functions on a six-month timer, signaling when it's time for a filter change. If the water dispensing speed changes significantly with and without the filter, consider replacing it regardless of the light's status. Here's how to reset the indicator based on your refrigerator model:
Standard models: Find the Filter Reset button on the control panel. Press and hold for three seconds.
Family Hub models: Go to Apps > Fridge Manager > Fridge Settings > Water Filter, then tap Reset.
Models with arrow buttons: Use arrows to navigate to More Options > Filter Reset.
Specific models (RF4289 and RSG309): Navigate to Settings > Water Filter, then hold Reset until the status changes.
Water filter standards
Samsung water filters meet NSF/ANSI standards 42, 53, and 401, ensuring a reduction in various contaminants from your drinking water, including chlorine, lead, mercury, and emerging contaminants like pharmaceuticals.
