USB-C and HDMI ports on your Samsung monitor
Samsung monitors have more to them than meets the eye. They're equipped with multiple ports for connecting all sorts of external devices like your PC, gaming system, soundbar, and even your phone. In fact, compatible monitors and Galaxy phones can connect wirelessly to use with Samsung DeX, freeing up the USB-C ports for other devices.
The many benefits of USB-C
Note: Lower version USB-C cables will not support the DisplayPort video input function.
USB-C ports are becoming more common on monitors which is great news because they come with all kinds of benefits. The Samsung Smart Monitor supports USB 3.1, which means it can use multiple connection types, as long as the other device and cable are USB 3.1 compatible as well. In layman’s terms, this is what the port can do when everything is compatible:
Create a daisy chain so you can connect multiple monitors at once.
Use lightning-fast data transfer with a speed of 10 Gbps!
Display connected devices on your monitor. The port has DisplayPort capabilities and supports 4K resolution for stunning picture quality. Connect a laptop or another external device to get a bigger, better view of your games or work projects.
Charge your other devices, such as your phone or tablet. Just plug one end of the USB-C cable into the monitor and the other end into your device. The port will supply the device with up to 65W of power.

At this time, the USB-C 3.1 port is only available on the following Samsung monitors:
Use the HDMI port
Samsung Smart Monitors also come with one standard HDMI port and an HDMI (ARC) port. With the regular port, you can connect external devices, such as other monitors, a gaming system, or a laptop, to the monitor and display their media.
The HDMI (ARC) port is a little different. It allows you to use the port as either a normal input or an audio output. That means you can connect audio devices, like a soundbar, with only one HDMI cable, instead having to connect multiple ones. It’s very convenient and gives you more freedom with your monitor and device setup.
Unlike the USB-C port we mentioned earlier, the HDMI ports cannot charge connected devices and cannot use DisplayPort.
Use DeX without any wires
While ports and cables will always be very important, connecting devices wirelessly is definitely more convenient. With newer Galaxy phones, the DeX feature lets you wirelessly connect your phone to a monitor. Not only that, you'll be able to control your phone, open its apps, and use a desktop-like experience on the monitor. It's great for multitasking or enlarging items that are usually hard to see on a phone's small screen.
