Measure your body composition with a Wear OS Galaxy smart watch

Galaxy Watch4 displaying Body composition screen

Samsung Health is always looking out for your well-being, and now you can use a new feature in the app with your Wear OS model Galaxy watch. It’s called body composition and will give you a measurement of your body’s "contents," such as your percentage of body fat and muscle. Using this measurement is simple and can be done any time you’re wearing your watch.

Before measuring your body composition

Body composition is a powerful tool to help you learn about your health, but there are some important things you should understand before using your Galaxy watch to measure your body composition.

  • The body composition measurement is for general personal information only. It is not intended to detect, diagnose, or treat any medical condition or disease. Please consult a medical professional for further advice based on your results.

  • Do not use this measurement if you have an implanted pacemaker or other implanted medical devices, or if you are pregnant.

  • Measurement results may not be accurate for individuals under 20 years of age.

Use the body composition measurement

Note: Metal bands and straps may cause interference with the measurement, leading to inaccurate results. Avoid wearing metal accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, or rings during the measurement.

The body composition feature on your Wear OS model Galaxy watch uses a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) sensor (located on the back of your watch) to send micro-currents to your body. This measures the amount of muscle, fat, and water in your body to give you an overall result that achieves 98% correlation to Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans, similar to commercial standing 8-electrode BIA device accuracy.

  1. Make sure your watch is secured around your wrist.

  2. Navigate to the Samsung Health app on your watch, swipe to and tap Body composition, and then tap Measure.

  5. Place your middle and index fingers on the Power button and Back button. You do not need to press the buttons; simply touch them with your fingertips.

  6. Next, raise both your arms. Hold your body still as the watch calculates your body composition.
