Dry or dehydrate fruits in your Samsung oven
Dried fruits are a healthy snack with plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Instead of buying bag after bag, you can save money by drying out some fruit in your very own Samsung oven. You don’t even need a dehydrator – just some basic supplies like a baking sheet and other things you probably have lying around your kitchen.
Make dehydrated fruit
Skip a trip to the grocery store and follow the instructions below to make your very own dried fruit.
First, set your oven to around 200°F. Do not set it any higher than 225 degrees. If your oven has a Deyhdrate mode, that's perfect. Otherwise, you can use the Bake mode.
Cut bigger fruits like apples or oranges into very thin slices. If needed, you can use a mandoline slicer for extra precision. Smaller fruits like apricots, blueberries, cranberries, and grapes can be left whole.
Remove and discard pits, seeds, and cores along with stems and any bruised or blemished parts. If the fruit has tough skin, you should also peel it.
When the fruits are prepared, place them in a bowl and soak them for a couple minutes in a mixture of water and lemon juice. You can use lime juice or vinegar instead if you wish. Soaking the fruit will help prevent them from browning while they are being dehydrated.
After soaking the fruit, place parchment paper on a baking sheet and then put the fruit on top. Make sure the pieces of fruit are about an inch or two apart from each other.
When the oven is hot enough, place the baking sheet inside. Rack position 3 or 4 is best.
Now, let your fruits sit in the oven for however long it takes them to dry out. Dehydrating fruit can take between 4 to 6 hours (or even longer) depending on the fruit’s water content and how thinly you sliced them.
About every half hour, rotate the baking sheet’s position in the oven. At this time, you should also flip and move the fruits around. This will help them dry more evenly.
As for how dehydrated the fruit should be, it’s really up to you! You’ll know they are finished when they have a leathery texture and no moisture is present. However, you can leave them in longer if you’d like them to be extra crunchy.
When the fruit has reached your desired level of dehydration, turn off and open the oven. Remove the fruits from the baking sheet while it’s still warm and place them on a cooling rack.
Once they’ve cooled off, store the fruit in airtight containers. You can place them in the fridge or freezer to help them last longer.
