Use Gemini or Google Assistant on your Galaxy phone
Set Google as your default digital assistant app
Google can be set as your default assistant app using the Settings menu.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Apps, and then tap Choose default apps.

- Tap Digital assistant app, and then tap Digital assistant app again.
- Choose Google as your preferred assistant app.
- If you’d like to launch Google using the Side button, you may need to change your Side button settings. To do so, navigate back to Settings, then tap Advanced features, and then tap Side button.
- Tap Long press, and then tap Digital assistant.

- Tap the Settings icon next to Digital assistant, and then choose Google.

Use Gemini
Gemini can answer questions or find information by seamlessly accessing multiple apps, such as Google Maps, Calendar, and YouTube, plus third-party apps like Spotify and WhatsApp. Make sure you have signed into both your Samsung and Google accounts before proceeding. You can even use Gemini from the FlexWindow on the Galaxy Z Flip series.
- Press and hold the Side button to activate Gemini.
- Tap the Live icon (the three vertical lines with a star) and listen to the introduction.

- Next, review the Go Live with Gemini information. Swipe to and tap OK.
- Begin conversing with Gemini about a topic of your choice on the Live with Gemini screen. Gemini will answer you with information, resources, and tips.
The following options are available on the Live with Gemini screen:

- Video: Gemini can use your camera to see nearby items. Tap the Video icon, and then position your phone at something. Ask a question about the object; Gemini will provide details related to the object.
- Share screen: To share your screen with Gemini, tap the Share screen icon, select your desired option from the drop-down menu, and then tap Share screen. To turn off screen sharing, swipe down from the top right or center of the screen to open the Notification panel, and then tap the down arrow on the Google screen share notification. Tap Stop sharing.
- Pause: Tap the Pause icon to pause your conversation. Tap the Live icon to resume your conversation.
- Close: Tap the Close icon to exit Live with Gemini.
- Gemini will still be available even if you navigate away from the Go Live with Gemini screen. Tap Listening… in the top left corner of the screen to open a “Live with Gemini” bar at the top of the Home screen. Tap the Live icon to continue chatting.
- To place Live with Gemini on hold, tap the Pause icon on the bar. To exit Live with Gemini, tap the Close icon on the bar.
Use Google Assistant
If you would like to switch to Google Assistant, just follow the steps below.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Google, and then tap the All services tab.

- Tap Search, Assistant & Voice, then tap Google Assistant, and then tap Voice Match.
- Tap Digital assistant from Google, and then choose Google Assistant.

- Next, launch Google Assistant by pressing and holding the Side button or saying “Hey Google.”
- Begin speaking or typing a question you’d like to ask.
Adjust the voice match for Hey Google
Your personal voice match for “Hey Google” can be adjusted using the instructions below.
- Navigate to and open Settings, then tap Google, and then tap the All services tab.

- Tap Search, Assistant & Voice, then tap Google Assistant, and then tap Voice Match.

- Tap the switch next to Hey Google to begin adjusting the voice match.
- Review the information, and then tap Agree.
- Review the additional information, then tap More, and then tap I agree. Tap Next.

- If desired, tap Start saving audio and follow the on-screen instructions. For this example, tap Not now.
- You can tap Retrain Voice Match model to adjust the voice match, or Delete Voice Match model to remove the voice match from your phone.
Try seamless actions across apps
- Press and hold the Side button to activate Gemini.

- Next, use the keyboard or your voice to give a command, such as:
- “Find a nearby Thai restaurant with outdoor seating and a casual dress code, and text the information to Mom.”
- “Look up the next ten Giants football games and add them to my calendar.”
- Gemini can even help you out when you’re watching videos! If you want to make a quick note of a video’s finer points, press and hold the Side button, and then tap Ask about video.

- Next, issue your command, such as “Make a list of the locations mentioned in this video and save it as a note.” Gemini will pull the relevant information and add it to a new note in Samsung Notes.
