Use the included storage tools.

There's some built-in tools that can help make more space on your device:

Sync data to a cloud service

An easy way of clearing space is to sync to a cloud service. Your Samsung device is compatible with a number of Cloud storage providers, such as Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, and Dropbox.

  • Google Drive: Open Settings, then tap Accounts and backup, and then tap Back up data under Google Drive.
  • Microsoft One Drive: Open Settings, then tap Accounts and backup, and then tap Manage accounts. Select your OneDrive account, and then tap Sync account.
  • Dropbox: Open the Dropbox app to view your device’s current files.

Use Device care

Device care can clean up unnecessary files.

  • Quick optimization: Open Settings, then tap Device care, and then tap Optimize now. When it's finished, tap Done.
  • Power saving: Open Settings, then tap Device care, and then tap Battery. Tap Power saving, and then tap the switch at the top to turn it on. You can use additional power saving options from this screen as well.
  • Light performance: Open Settings, then tap Device care, and then tap Performance profile. Select Light.
  • Clean storage: Open Settings, then tap Device care, and then tap Storage. Select your desired category, and then select the item(s) you’d like to remove. Tap Delete or Delete all, and then tap Move to Trash.
  • Clean memory: Open Settings, then tap Device care, and then tap Memory. Select your desired apps or categories, and then tap Clean now.

Some carriers offer their own cloud services, and there are many other apps and services available from the Galaxy Store or the Google Play Store.

Move files or manage your storage.

The My Files app will help you manage your storage.

  1. Open the My Files app, and then select your desired file category. If needed, select additional folders that contain your desired files.
  2. Tap Copy to create a copy of the files in a different storage location, or tap Move to completely remove the files and move them to a new location.
  3. Next, navigate to and select your desired location, such as Internal storage, SD card, Google Drive, One Drive, or Network storage.
  4. Tap Move here or Copy here. You can also create a new folder by tapping More options (the three vertical dots), and then tapping Create folder.
  5. To delete a file from My Files, navigate back to the app’s Home screen, and then tap More options (the three vertical dots). Tap Settings, and then tap the switch next to Trash to enable it.
  6. Tap Back, and then select your desired file category, as well as any additional folders.
  7. Touch and hold the folders you want to delete, then tap Delete, and then tap Move to Trash.

Uninstall unnecessary apps.

You can free up space on your device by uninstalling apps that you don't use frequently. Keep in mind that some carrier and preloaded apps cannot be uninstalled.

To uninstall an app, locate the app on your device’s Home or Apps screens, and then touch and hold it. Next, tap Uninstall and confirm by tapping OK. The app will now be uninstalled.

Perform a factory data reset.

If you have a lot of content on your phone or tablet, and you've backed up everything important, a Factory data reset will resolve storage errors by erasing everything, so you can start fresh.

  1. Open Settings, then tap General management, and then tap Reset.
  2. Tap Factory data reset, and then review the information.
  3. Swipe to and tap Reset. If you have a security lock set up, you will be asked to enter your credentials.
  4. Next, tap Delete all.
  5. From there, you will be required to enter your Samsung account's password if you have added a Samsung account.
  6. Your device will reset; when it turns back on, it will start from the initial setup screen.
