Samsung TV or the TV speakers make an abnormal noise

The only noise you should hear from your TV or Odyssey Ark gaming screen is the sound of whatever you're watching. If you hear a cracking or popping noise, it could be due to temperature changes. A buzzing, crackling, or humming noise could be caused by electrical feedback. Arranging the cables and making sure the TV has good ventilation will keep it quiet.

TVs use a combination of metal and plastic material. These materials are subject to expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. Occasional creaking, popping, or cracking may be heard. With this in mind, here are a few quick tips on how to reduce the expansion that can cause these noises.

  • Ensure that there is adequate ventilation. Some enclosures may not allow for proper ventilation. This causes the internal temperature to increase and the plastic to expand even more than normal. For recommended ventilation requirements, please see your user manual.
  • Make sure there aren't any heating or air conditioning vents pointing directly at the TV.
  • Verify that the TV is on a flat and level surface. Tilting or an uneven stand can increase these noises.

1

Check the cables.

Make sure all cables are connected firmly to the proper color-coded inputs on the TV and on the external devices.

  • For component cables, there are two red connections, one for video and one for audio. Make sure they are connected correctly.
  • For RF coaxial cables from an antenna or cable provider, change to another channel. If the buzzing stops, the TV is not the cause of the problem.
2

Check for a new software update on your TV.

Navigate to Settings Support (Device Care) > Software Update

For more information, see our guide on updating your TV's software.

3

Replace the audio connection cable.

Replace the audio connection cable, even if it is an HDMI or RF coaxial cable. Then test again to see if the issue still occurs.

If the buzzing, crackling, or humming continues after replacing the audio cable, visit the Support Center to request service.

4

Try connecting a different external device to the same input.

Connect a different device to the same input on the TV using the same connection cables.

For example, if a cable box is connected using the component connections, try connecting a DVD player to the same input with the same cables.

If there is no buzzing, crackling, or humming with the second external device connected, the original device (the cable box in this example) is the source of the noise.

5

Connect the external device to a different TV.

Connect the external device to a different TV using the same cable.

For example, if a DVD player is connected to the TV with component cables, connect the DVD player to another TV using the same component cables.

If the buzzing, crackling, or humming continues from the second TV, the Samsung TV is not the cause of the problem.

6

Set up service.

If your TV is still making buzzing, crackling, or humming sounds visit the Support Center to request service.
