Can't turn on Bluetooth or connect devices to Samsung PC

If you are having difficulty connecting a Bluetooth device to your PC, or if the Bluetooth setting won't turn on or is missing completely, there are a few steps you can take to get your device connected.

Can't turn on Bluetooth or connect devices to Samsung PC

Confirm Bluetooth is turned on.
If the Bluetooth logo is one of the icons near your clock in the bottom right, it's on. If you don't see the icon, you can also open the start menu and start typing "Bluetooth" and then select Bluetooth and other devices when it appears. If the slider here is turned off, turn it on.

If the Bluetooth setting is missing or won't turn on, run the Bluetooth troubleshooter.
Open the Start menu, begin typing Troubleshoot settings, and select it when it appears. Scroll to and select the Bluetooth troubleshooter, and then follow all on-screen instructions.

Check the device.
  • Try moving the device closer to your PC.
  • Keep other Bluetooth devices out from between what you're trying to connect.
  • Disconnect the Bluetooth device from any other devices it's connected to. (Usually you can do this by putting it into pairing mode.) See the manufacturer of the device for how to do this.
  • Make sure the Bluetooth device has a good charge, fresh batteries, or is plugged in to a working outlet.
  • If you have any other Bluetooth devices, try connecting them to the PC instead. If they connect, then the issue is with the original device and not your PC. See the device's manufacturer for further troubleshooting. If the Bluetooth device is a Samsung product, you can search for support for that device at our Support Center.

Remove and reconnect the device.
In some cases, reconnecting may fail even if the device has connected previously. Click Remove device to remove it from the list of Bluetooth devices on your PC, and then click Add Bluetooth or other device, then Bluetooth, to reconnect the device. (The device will need to be put into pairing mode. Follow the original connection process again and any onscreen instructions.)

Check for updates.

Your computer may have updates available for its Bluetooth driver. Check for updates from Samsung Update and Windows Update.

If an update is found, repeat the previous steps to try to connect the device again.

Reset the Bluetooth driver.
  1. In the search bar, search and select Device Manager.
  2. Identify the Bluetooth chipset in use by your PC. Some of the most common ones in Samsung PC's are Intel or Qualcomm Atheros.
  3. Once you have located the device, right click it, and then select Uninstall device .

    Important: Do not delete the driver software without a way to reinstall it. If you delete the driver, and don't have the installer, or a connection to the Internet, it will be difficult to reinstall.
  4. Select Action on the menu bar, and then select Scan for hardware changes. You can also reboot the PC instead. This will reload the driver and set all its settings to default.

After resetting the driver, repeat all the previous steps to try to connect the device again.

Reset the computer.
If after all of the previous steps, you still encounter trouble with the Bluetooth on your PC, and none of your Bluetooth devices will connect to it, then before service, perform a factory reset.

Request service.
If no Bluetooth devices will work with your PC even after a factory reset, visit our Support Center to request service.
