Samsung cooktop and range sounds and operational noises

A Samsung gas cooktop installed next to a wall oven

Your range or cooktop can be quite noisy in certain circumstances. The oven will click, the fan will blow, and even cracking or whistling might come from induction cooktops. Read why all of these sounds happen and what causes them.

/

Clicking or cracking

While oven is in use: These sounds are the circuit relays switching. The volume will be a little different on various models, depending on how many relays and their location within the range.

While igniting gas burners: This sound is the igniter sparking to light the flame. All burners will spark and click when any knob is turned to LITE.

Continuous clicking on gas cooktop: If the clicking noise continues even when no knobs are turned to LITE, there may be moisture on the ignition switches behind the knobs. You can try to remove the moisture by heating the cooktop (or oven), or by unplugging the cooktop and letting it dry for a couple hours or overnight. If the clicking continues, visit our Support Center to request service.

Whirring or blowing

Cooling fan: When the cooktop is in use, it will engage the internal cooling fan, and the fan will keep running until the internal components cool down again, even after the cooktop is no longer being used. This sounds like a normal fan noise, buzzing, hissing, or whirring.

Convection fan: The convection fan (the visible fan on the back wall of the oven) will also run at certain times as well.

/

Buzzing

It's normal for induction ranges to make this sound, depending on what material the cookware is made of. No damage is being done, but you can switch to other cookware if desired.

/

High pitched humming on induction cooktop

This sound happens on induction cooktops when you have one type of cookware on one zone and another type of cookware (made from a different material) on another zone, at the same time.

/

Low pitched humming

This sound occurs when the induction cooktop is being used and will get louder as the power level is raised.

/

Thumping or banging

This sound is the expanding and contracting of metal parts in the range as they heat up or cool down.

If this type of noise is occurring but is significantly louder than normal, visit our Support Center to request service.

/

High pitched whistling or humming on gas range

This noise is normal when the gas is on. It's the sound of the gas going through the system.

/

Puffing

On certain models of gas ranges, which have a double gas burner, the gap in the outer burner may make a puffing sound when the flames are set at a specific level. The puffing sound is completely normal, but if it's bothersome, you can adjust the burner slightly higher or lower to eliminate the sound.
