Home theater system shuts down automatically or displays "Protection"

Your home theater system has built in overheating protection. If it gets too hot, it will shut itself down to prevent itself from melting. If it is turning off without shutting itself down first, there could be an issue with the power supply from the wall outlet.

  1. Give your home theater system some space.

    It can be convenient to pile all your electronics on top of one another, but this can often have disastrous effects. Most electronics such as your home theater system need a bit of airflow around them to maintain their temperature, and if they're too close to other electronics that are in use, the heat from those electronics may spill over.

    If you see the message "Protection" this is what's happening. However, if the home theater system is well away from other devices in an open area, is cool to the touch, and still displays this message, visit our Support Center to request service.

  2. Verify the timer function is set to OFF.

    The home theater system has a timer button located on the bottom row of buttons on the remote. When this is active, it will automatically turn off the home theater system after the time is up. Press the Timer On/Off button to confirm that the timer function is set to OFF.

  3. Check the power outlet.

    Unplug the home theater system and check the outlet it's plugged into. You can test the outlet with another device, like a lamp.

    When plugging the home theater system back in, plug it directly into the working outlet and avoid using any surge protectors or extension cords which may no longer be working.

If the home theater system continues to power off randomly, visit the Support Center to request service.
