External speaker issues with DeX

Dex Pad connected to Samsung monitor

When you're using Samsung DeX, audio will play from either the phone's speakers or an external audio device, such as wired, Bluetooth, or connected display speakers. If sound is coming from the phone's speakers but not from the external device, the external speakers may not be connected properly.

Check the audio settings on DeX

  1. Check the output settings.

On the DeX Home screen, select the Volume icon on the bottom right side, and then select Expand (the three horizontal dots). Next, select Change audio output to make sure you are connected to the correct external device. You can also connect to a different audio device if desired.

  2. Check the monitor.

If you are connecting to a monitor that is typically used with a PC, many do not have built-in speakers. Check your monitor's user manual for details. If you are using an HDMI to DVI cable or adapter, you will not be able to output audio to the display.

  3. Adjust the volume.

On the DeX Home screen, select the Volume icon on the bottom right side and adjust the volume slider as necessary. Make sure that nothing is muted.

If your audio device has its own volume controls, make sure it is not muted and is at a comfortable level.
