Software update issues with Samsung earbuds

If you encounter issues updating the software on your Galaxy earbuds, such as the Galaxy Buds2 or Gear IconX earbuds, you may need to update the Galaxy Wearable app or the PC Manager software. However, the issues could also be caused by your network connection or outdated software on the device you're using to update the earbuds.

Available features and menu options will vary by earbuds, phone, or tablet model.

  1. Check your network connection.

A network connection is required on the connected device to update the earbuds' software. Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.Wi-Fi on and connected with a Samsung phone

  2. As a charging precaution, do not charge the earbuds using a power source like a computer. Doing so can cause the earbuds to charge slower.

  3. Charge the earbuds for at least 30 minutes.

Close the app or program you're using to update the earbuds. Then, place the earbuds into the charging case and close the lid. Connect the USB cable to the USB charging port on the back of the charging case. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a Samsung-approved charger adapter (sold separately), and plug it directly into a power outlet.

  4. Close the app or software on your device used to updated the earbuds.

If an error occurs during the update, close the app or software on your device. For a phone or tablet, close the Galaxy Wearable app. If you're using a computer, close the PC Manager software (Galaxy Buds Manager or Gear IconX Manager) specific to your earbuds.

Both earbuds must be connected to the app or software in order to update the earbuds. Make sure you are connecting the earbuds properly, and that they are clean and free of dust, dirt, or earwax.

  5. Exit apps or software that may be running on your device, and then restart the device.

Exit apps or software that may be running, and then restart the phone, tablet, or computer by powering it off and back on again.

  6. Check for updates on your device.

It may be necessary to update the software on your phone, tablet, TV, or computer before updating the earbuds.

    • Galaxy phone or tablet: From Settings, search for and select Software update. Then, tap Download and install.
    • Computer: Methods will vary, depending on the operating system of your computer. You can visit Chromebook, Mac, or Windows support pages for specific details.
    • TV: You can update the software on your TV through the internet. On your TV, navigate to Settings, select Support, and then select Software Update. Select Auto Update to turn on automatic updates, or select Update Now to download updates.Software update menu with Download and install highlighted
  7. The Wearable app for the Buds Pro is not compatible with iOS. However, the Galaxy Buds+ and Buds Live are compatible for updates through the Samsung Galaxy Buds app for iOS. The Galaxy Buds Pro are not compatible with Galaxy Buds Manager on PC.

  8. Check for updates to the app or software used to update the earbuds.

After updating your device, try updating either the Galaxy Wearable app, Samsung Galaxy Buds app for iOS, or the PC Manager software.

    • Galaxy Wearable: Open the app, and navigate to and tap About Galaxy Wearable or About Samsung Gear app. Then, tap Update.

    • Samsung Galaxy Buds (for iOS): Open the App Store, and then tap your profile icon. Swipe down and tap Update next the Samsung Galaxy Buds. If Update does not appear, an update is not available at this time.
    • Galaxy Buds Manager when using Galaxy Buds: Open the app, select About PC program, and then select Update.

    • Galaxy Buds Manager when using Galaxy Buds+: Open the app, select Check for updates, and then select Download and Install.

    • Gear IconX Manager: Open the app, select More options, and then select Update.

  9. Set up service.

If you're unable to update both earbuds, service is required. Please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG to request service.
