USB 3.0 ports stopped working on Samsung PC

Sometimes a Windows update may install generic or incompatible drivers for the USB 3.0 ports. Often this will lead to the ports able to power a connected device, but not communicate with it. Installing the correct drivers will restore the ports to normal operation.

USB 3.0 ports stopped working on Samsung PC

The computer may reboot during updates, so save anything you are working on.

Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, without any port replicators, docks, or adapters.
Unplugging it and plugging it back in gives the PC a chance to try working with the device again. This also rules out any port replicators or docks in use as the cause of the issue.

Check for updates on Samsung Update.
Samsung Update is preinstalled and can be found in the Start Menu. If it has been uninstalled, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Download any driver or BIOS updates available.

Check for troublesome drivers.

Open Device Manager (one method is to right click the start button and select Device Manager). In the device list, look for any USB devices that are experiencing issues. If you see one, right click it and select Update Driver and then Search automatically for updated driver software. After this process completes, click Search for updated drivers on Windows Update.

If the device still shows it has an issue in Device Manager after updating the drivers, or if there are no updates available, then right click the device and select Uninstall device. Once the device is uninstalled, reboot the computer.

Reset the PC.
If the issue continues after rebooting the computer, reset the PC.

Request service.
If the issue continues with a freshly reset PC, visit our Support Center to request service.
